Republicans Look To Return to the Dark Ages with Climate Science Investigation

Nov 05 2010 Published by under Featured News

Now that Republicans control the House of Representatives, they promise to fulfill their threat to investigate everything in order to obstruct the Obama Administration. Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell, claims their two-fold goal is to repeal the Affordable Health Care legislation, and prevent President Obama from being re-elected to a second term. McConnell has an operative ready to distract Obama’s Administration with investigations into everything from the president’s birthplace, to the world’s leading scientists.

One of the first strikes Darrel Issa (R-CA) has promised is to launch investigations of international climate science data the EPA uses to link greenhouse gas emissions to global climate change. Why is the EPA one of the first targets? Their goal is to curb or end regulations the energy industry doesn’t like. Republicans make no secret that they want to deregulate the oil and coal industry, and it feels like they are repaying the Koch brothers for their campaign contributions. The repayment is tying up the EPA with investigations. The EPA Administrator, Lisa P. Jackson, admitted that an anti-regulatory campaign could hinder EPA work, and that new vehicle-emission rules would be in danger because “its the efforts we’ve seen to take away the agency’s greenhouse gas authority.”

Issa intends to contest worldwide scientific research and data as being unproven and invalid because conservatives don’t believe global climate change is real. Republican congressional committees could put the EPA on the defensive and create political pressure that could cause the Democrats and President Obama to pull back on environmental policy issues out of fear of the 2012 elections.

It is a dirty trick, but it’s normal for Republicans. It is unfathomable that a legislator with no scientific background can challenge climate scientists from around the world, but with conservatives controlling the House, they will be able to keep the EPA on the defensive, and in effect, impotent. Issa is not a climate scientist and according to his bio, not really any kind of scientist (BA in business admin). He is unqualified and couldn’t challenge complex scientific empirical data. His goal is to pander to the oil industry and destroy the EPA along with Obama’s energy policy that does not favor the Koch brothers.

In Virginia, attorney general Ken Cuccinelli attacked climate scientists because he doesn’t believe in global climate change. He does believe in eliminating regulations on the mining industry,  and has been on a campaign to discredit climate science in Virginia through investigations and court cases. Even though a judge blocked Cuccinelli’s case, he filed another suit to discredit the same researcher in hopes of finding a judge who will be sympathetic to the mining industry. Fortunately for science, Cuccinelli himself is under investigation for fraud in his attempts to discredit the climate scientist.

America is ridiculed around the world for clinging to superstition and rejecting science on any number of subjects, but simpletons like Issa and Cuccinelli do not care.  Their baseless opinions and beliefs are above science because of their arrogance, religion, and loyalty to the energy industry. The audacity of investigating scientists from around the world, and questioning their data is absolutely mind-boggling. They don’t question science when it involves medical procedures, and if they were true to their belief that science is bad, they would use home remedies and prayer for massive heart attacks.

The truth is that opportunists like Issa and Cuccinelli only challenge science when it suits their politics. If the oil industry stopped handing out cash to Republicans, investigations into scientists or their data would be lower on the list. Issa and his cohorts are willing to cripple the EPA for money, and not because they love dirty air. Coupled with the oil industry money and the goal of obstructing the Obama Administration, it is simple to understand why they want to investigate scientific data, and any other subject that will disable Obama’s agenda.

Republicans, and Issa in particular, promised there will be investigations into everything to do with Barack Obama for the sole purpose of limiting him to one term as president. Mitch (turtle-boy) McConnell openly says it is his primary goal, along with repealing the Affordable Health Care act, and it guarantees that for two years, America will wallow in investigations and stagnation as Republicans bring the government to a halt. If they can prevent the EPA from enforcing clean air standards along the way, or eliminating the standards all together, that will get them more cash from the Kochs.

America must advance into the 21st century and recognize that science is necessary to a quality life and economic prosperity; in spite of what crazy climate-change deniers say. It is too bad that we have reverted to questioning science like the Church did in the Dark Ages, and appalling that a non-scientist is challenging the world’s leading climate scientists; all to protect the oil industry and limit President Obama to one term. What a waste of time and money.

Many racist Americans support investigating and stopping Obama at any cost. It is counter-productive and not the reason representatives are sent to Washington. Americans have seen conservatives’ vindictiveness for the past 22 months, and we’ll feel it for at least the next two years. Republicans’ constituents should feel cheated by their representatives whose sole intention is not to govern, but to cripple the government out of sheer hatred of a black man in the Oval Office.

Virginia GOP Politicizes Snow Storm to Argue Against Climate Change

Feb 06 2010 Published by under Republican Party

In their quest to politicize everything, the Republican Party sunk to a new low today in the state of Virginia, as they are using the current record snow storm in a new ad that mocks Democrats for supporting climate change legislation. The Republican are ignoring that events like the massive snow event are exactly what scientists are warning of.

Here is the ad courtesy of Think Progress:

The ad attacks Rep. Rick Boucher and Rep. Tom Periello, because they both support climate change legislation and, “think global warming is a serious problem for Virginia…so serious they voted to kill tens of thousands of Virginia jobs just to stop it.” It tells viewers to, “Call Boucher and Perriello and tell them how much global warming you get this weekend. Maybe they’ll come help you shovel.”

[googmonify]1234567890:right:300:250[/googmonify]

The problem is that the ad itself is actually evidence in support of global warming. The historic Mid-Atlantic snowstorm is exactly what climate change scientists are warning about. Global warming does not mean strictly, higher temperatures, which is the definition that the Republicans are trying to apply.

The warming of the earth will cause weather patterns to become more extreme, not hot, but extreme, Republicans know this, so they have to mock and discredit climate change to cover up their real agenda. Business is opposed to climate change legislation because they think it will decrease their profits.

The Republican opposition has little to do with science, and everything to do with protecting the corporate and pro-business interests that fund the GOP. If conservatives could discover away for corporate interests to make a quick buck off of climate change legislation, they would be all for it, but they can’t so they will continue to mock and discredit, all the while hiding their true motives, by using silly nonsensical ads which are designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Rush Limbaugh Hospitalized While Stalking Pelosi and Obama in Hawaii

Dec 30 2009 Published by under Featured News

Rush Limbaugh Rushed to Hospital For Chest Pains – Breaking

While vacationing in the foreign continent of Hawaii (where Cokie Roberts thinks real Americans don’t go for vacations and from whence our usurper’s phony birth certificate originates), Republican Party Leader and Conservative Talk Radio Host Rush Limbaugh was rushed to a Honolulu hospital Wednesday afternoon with chest pains. Rush has brought us such quips as, “Enraging liberals is simply one of the more enjoyable side effects of my wisdom.”

“Paramedics responded to the call at 2:41 p.m. at the Kahala Hotel and Resort.

Limbaugh suffered from chest pains, sources said. Paramedics treated him and took him to Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.”

http://www.kitv.com/politics/22094469/detail.html

Aside from Rush’s prescription drug addiction and an inner ear disease which lead to deafness in one ear, he has enjoyed reasonable health, although he suffers from yo yo weight issues; most recently dropping more than 90 pounds.

One wonders if he was hoping to catch a glimpse of the President whilst on the golf course in Hawaii, or hoping to share a drink with Pelosi, both of whom are also in Hawaii during the Christmas holiday.

Or perhaps he had planned to be there with Sarah Palin, who supposedly had to cut her vacation short. I won’t wish for him to fail, even though according to Rush, that’s a perfectly OK thing to do. Lines must be drawn.

Since Limbaugh is filthy rich, he will get the best care possible, then likely return to his radio show and use himself as an example of why the United States does not need meaningful healthcare reform.

Is it a coincidence that Rush just happened to be in Hawaii at the same time as Obama and Pelosi? I’ll bet there are already some on the right who don’t think so. It is only a matter of time until the Democrats are blamed for Limbaugh’s chest pains. I am sure that Glenn Beck is working on special on this very subject as we speak.

2009: The Year of Right Wing Jihad against President Barack Obama

Dec 28 2009 Published by under Featured News

2009 began with the inauguration of our new and first African American President, Barack Obama, and became the year that GOP and the Extreme Right Wing of the party became energized and very proactive in its goal to be destructive to our new President and his administration and policies by any means necessary.

Obama’s election was electric, exciting, historic and emotional. The whole world was watching and a new wave of enthusiasm erupted from the young and the old. After a dismal, secretive, greed driven and war torn 8 years, a new sense of HOPE had emerged. There was a new spirit that we could once again believe in and the America that we all loved and were proud to be a part of could once again exist.

After massive support of Barack Obama, a new world order began. We put the weight and troubles of the world on one man and his vision and then waited for him to resolve it all. What I want to know is what happened to all that energy, drive and support that elected our fresh new and intelligent President? Why did we think that he could handle it alone? Where was our role and responsibility in the new administration and the CHANGE we were expecting and counting on?

Something else began during this same time period except it had the total opposite impact. Those who had suffered the strong and bitter loss began a new campaign as well with full participation of its membership. The GOP and the Extreme Right Wing of the party became energized and very proactive in its goal to be destructive to our new President and his administration and policies by any means necessary.

The poison spread rapidly. It began with the announcement of Sarah Palin as the running mate for John Mc Cain. She ignited the right wing with wild and extremely wild accusations against then Senator Barack Obama. Fact checking was a vague after thought by the media who once followed Obama. They now had a new media sensation that they found to be far more
exciting and facts and intelligence was not a requirement. The seeds were planted and the main stream media outlets joined forces with the Republican Party and the people who had successfully elect President Barack Obama took a back seat and silently watched the drama play out.

President Barack Obama began his bi-partisan approach to establishing his administration and policies for the country. After the Bush/Cheney administration took the country to the brink of disaster economically, Obama discovered the country was in much worse shape than he had been led to believe before taking office.

As the war in Iraq was winding down, the war in Afghanistan had been left in turmoil. Many of the secrets of the Bush administration had begun to unravel. The neglect in Afghanistan had turned into massive corruption and a Taliban that was much stronger and more established. Troops were barely supported. The surge had reduced the violence in Iraq but violence had increased elsewhere.

The status of the economy had taken priority front and center. It required a bold and massive stimulus to even begin to simply prevent the US from falling off the cliff into the deep depression that the Bush administration had created and walked quietly away from. With the support of main stream media, the GOP began their assault and to this day, they have not let up. They made wild accusations based off seriously misleading information. FOX cable news took the leadership role with the attacks by Glenn Beck, Hannity and others.

Every member of the GOP who wanted to speak out received major air time. Facts were not required. And then Rush Limbaugh, Palin and newly elected GOP leader Steele began their attacks. Back in the days of real journalism versus sensationalism, this would not have happened without verifiable facts to support the claims.

Next out of the dark dangerous world of GOP politics emerges the highly secretive and power hungry former VP Dick Cheney. He has appeared on camera more in the last year speaking out against President Barack Obama then all eight years combined under the Bush administration.

His whole motive was to destroy the image and character of the new President and save his own legacy by implying weakness and trying to change the facts that it was he and the Bush administration who had hurt the country the most through the destruction of the economy and falsely leading America into war with Iraq including illegal torture that is yet to be proven beneficial as he has claimed. His chief of staff was convicted of leaking and endangering the identity of a CIA agent. It was the first time that a conviction had gotten than close to the
office of the Presidency.

In the meantime throughout the course of 2009, President Barack Obama was working hard to resolve the disastrous economy, two wars, a pandemic, joblessness climbing at
a rate the country had not seen in several years, a housing crisis, healthcare reform that was bankrupting and denying millions of Americans coverage and claims and more.

Obama has worked on improving the image of America worldwide. His message is one of peace during wartime. He has managed to move healthcare reform further than any previous President who has tried. He was successfully able to get an intelligent and highly qualified Latina female appointed as a Supreme Court justice and lots more. The GOP has fought him every step of the way on everything.

During this first year of office, where was the support of the media for the President of the US? Where was the left wing? All of the progressives speaking out against Obama now, where were you all year during the attacks and negative drive of the right? In August during those ridiculous town hall meetings that had nothing to do with healthcare other than the confused citizens screaming that they did not want the government running their Medicare!!! If the left and the right are screaming at Barack Obama, maybe it means he is doing something for the majority. Stop your complaining for a minute and take a serious look at the progress and the prevention of disaster.

President Barack Obama has been pragmatic and he is working for the long haul and for the people. If you really examine this time period in our history, this is a period of major transformation. Any leader during this time will have to endure pressure from all directions because he must lead and navigate through the chaos and turmoil that the real CHANGE will cause before the benefit is actualized.

Major structures such as government bodies, corporations, institutions, etc. will have to change because it is time. I wonder how it would be if the President really had the support of those who elected him. Let’s give him time to do the extremely difficult task that he has taken on and that we have given him.

This mess was not created in a year and it is going to take more than a year to alter. These are extremely difficult times, but it could have been much worse if it were not for President Barack Obama. Let’s work with him and not against him. We have to fight the Extremists who represent destruction. It is time to be co creators in the change that is necessary.

There are not many real journalists left to report the news. The cable news giants have bought into the GOP sensationalism. Ask yourselves what you can do to require the mainstream media outlets to report the truth and shy away from the misleading and unsubstantiated claims of the GOP in the New Year? The President needs our support. Everything is at stake.

Rush Limbaugh Calls For Massive Bombing Raids and War with Iran

Dec 18 2009 Published by under Featured News

On his radio show today Rush Limbaugh called for war with Iran, but Rush doesn’t want to use ground troops but massive bombing raids. Limbaugh said, “The only way to stop them is to destroy the Iranian regime, the mullahs, and that can only be accomplished through war.”

Here is the audio from Media Matters:

Limbaugh said, “Now ladies and gentleman as far as Iran is concerned, the only way to stop them is to destroy the Iranian regime, the mullahs and that can only be accomplished through war, and by war, I don’t mean ground troops, I mean massive bombing raids intended to destroy every one of the key targets. The question is whether or not we have the will to do this anymore.”

Limbaugh described the people running Iran as irrational religious fanatics, but then he got back on subject, “I don’t know whether we have the will to do this or not. Bush didn’t because he was engaged in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they would have impeached him if he tried. Obama’s tied up in knots with his own appeasement mentality, left wing base. Everything Obama is touching is coming apart…”

He went into full neo-con fear mongering mode, “If we don’t pound Iran into submission at some point, they are going to get the bomb. They’re bragging about it. They’ve told us. They’ve shunned the inspectors, and they laugh about it all. If Israel doesn’t attack them, the world will forever be a hostage to an Islamic regime that could fire mid range and eventually long range nuclear missiles when it chooses. Now we know that Obama won’t take effective military steps to stop Iran, so Israel doesn’t, it will in fact become a nuclear regime.”

The problem with Limbaugh’s reasoning is that the National Intelligence Estimate said that, “We judge with high confidence that Iran will not be technically capable of producing and reprocessing enough plutonium for a weapon before about 2015.” Yet Rush is ready to declare war on Iran.

The neo-con point of view assumes that Iran would sit themselves be bombed without retaliation. A war with Iran could not be won simply with air strikes. If the US starts bombing Iran, they will retaliate, most likely by attacking US forces in Iraq. Iran has 350,000 ground troops, which would make Iraq and Afghanistan seem like child’s play compared to war with Iran.

The Bush Doctrine has already been proven to be a failure, and perhaps the only move that would be worse that the US attacking Iran would be for Israel to attack Iran. Such action would result in a large scale regional war, which the US would be drawn into. The more things change, the more they stay the same on the right wing.

Rush Limbaugh Calls Healthcare Reform Supporters Mentally Disturbed

Dec 16 2009 Published by under Featured News

On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh called people who support healthcare reform mentally disturbed. Citing a poll, where 51% of people supported government intervention in healthcare, Limbaugh said, “51% of the people in this poll are absolutely mentally disturbed.” According to Rush it is crazy to support healthcare reform.

Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:

Limbaugh said, “Just 37% believe the quality of care they receive will be better under Obama’s plan as compared to 53% who said their care would be superior if the status quo was maintained. One bright spot in the numbers for Obama, a slim majority, 51%, said the government intervention is necessary to control costs and expand coverage, so that’s 51% of the people in this poll who are absolutely mentally disturbed.”

He added a dose of fear mongering, “It is plain common sense to understand that government does not control costs, government does not expand coverage. People are going to die prematurely with the government in charge of all this.”

If the government doesn’t control costs and expand coverage, then how does Limbaugh explain Medicare, which is government run, and does a better job at managing costs than the private sector? Let’s turn this question around, if the private sector is the answer, then why are fewer people covered, while costs continue to increase by double digits?

Limbaugh’s “common sense” doesn’t stand up to closer inspection. If it is crazy to want millions of people to be able to see a doctor, then yes, I guess I am crazy. If it is mentally disturbed to want a healthcare system where people aren’t bankrupted by illness then I am guilty as charged. If it is mentally disturbed to desire a system that places patient care ahead of corporate profits, then call the men in the white coats.

My definition of mentally disturbed involves someone who is rich, isolated, and guided by ideology that they are incapable of caring about the fact that millions of their fellow citizens are suffering every day. The truly mentally disturbed are the people like Rush Limbaugh and congressional Republicans who are looking to deny people medical care in order to push their agenda.

Racist Rush Returns as Limbaugh Mocks Native Americans

Dec 14 2009 Published by under Featured News

During one of his Obama is delusional rants on his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh let his racism slip out again. This time his target was Indians. Limbaugh said, “I don’t know if he really believes it, but if he does, we in heap big doo doo, a little Indian lingo there.”This comes from the same guy who once said that Indians should stop complaining, because they have casinos.

Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:

Limbaugh said, “Let me tell you something, the scariest thing when Obama told Oprah that he gave himself a B+ and went through all those reasons why, the economy is coming back, we kept ourselves out of Great Depression, the world loves us, if he really believes what he said, if he really believes what he said he’s accomplished, we are being led by a deeply delusional person. That’s scary, and I am dead serious about this. If he really believes it, I don’t know if he really believes it, but if he does, we in heap big doo doo, a little Indian lingo there.”

The joke about Indian lingo goes hand in hand with his rant against Native Americans in September.

Limbaugh said, “I am beginning to understand why Gadaffi’s translator collapsed. If I had to translate any of these people, I’d go nuts too. They make liars out of you, what is the holocaust, 90 million Indians, 4 million left. They all have casinos. What is there to complain about?”

This is why it is tad unbelievable to accept Limbaugh’s claims that he is not a racist. It is also interesting that Limbaugh managed to find something to be afraid of in the White House Christmas special that aired last night. Maybe Limbaugh’s real fear was based on the fact that there is an African American president?

The Christmas at the White House special was a fairly fluffy hour. There wasn’t anything controversial in it at all. I do have to admit that I was a little surprised that Obama gave himself a B+. I would grade his first year as more of C+ myself, which could move to a B+ depending on how healthcare turns out. Limbaugh somehow manage to turn a Christmas special into an attack on Obama and a racist joke about Native Americans.

Rush Limbaugh Uses Tiger Woods to Claim that Only Democrats Visit Prostitutes

Dec 11 2009 Published by under Featured News

On his radio show today Rush Limbaugh claimed that if Tiger Woods visited prostitutes, he fulfilled a Democratic requirement for election to high office. Limbaugh said, “This means that Tiger has now completed a resume requirement for election to high office as a Democrat…clearly this is Clintonesque.”

Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:

Limbaugh first read from the New York Daily News, “”One of his favorites was Loredana Jolie,” Michelle Braun told the Daily News, describing the gorgeous blond as a Playboy model from Sicily who’s been living in New York since age 14.”

“She’s a stunning girl,” Braun said. “He went out with her four or five times. She took part in group sex. They met up in 2006 or early 2007. I’d say he paid $15,000 for her.” Woods “had a pretty big appetite for women” added Braun, as the world famous athlete’s list of extramarital “transgressions” continues to grow.”

Limbaugh then added his own political spin, “Well now this means that Tiger has now completed a resume requirement for election to high office as a Democrat. You can do this in New York if you want to go the state level. Clearly this is Clintonesque, and Client Number Nine, Eliot Spitzer, who was the governor of New York.”

This could also be a resume requirement for election to high office as a Republican in Louisiana, like David Vitter, or it could a requirement for a Republican who wanted to be the senator from Illinois, like Jack Ryan, or if Rush wants to expand this discussion to include gay sex, same sex contact with a minor, there are Republicans Larry Craig and Mark Foley to add to the list.

As far as we know Bill Clinton never used prostitutes, and how does visiting a prostitute make Tiger Woods a Democrat, when most of the recent sex scandals have involved Republicans, like Mark Sanford, and John Ensign. Limbaugh’s point that Democrats are involved in more sex scandals is flat out untrue.

How does this discussion of Democrats even relate to Tiger Woods? This is just another lame attempt by Limbaugh to capitalize on the Tiger Woods scandal. Woods’ problems have nothing to do with politics, but that hasn’t stopped Limbaugh from using his name to push his agenda all week long.

Rush Limbaugh Claims that Tiger Woods is a Victim of Liberal Media Bias

Dec 09 2009 Published by under Featured News

On his radio show today Rush Limbaugh continued to talk about Tiger Woods, only this time he painted Woods as the victim of liberal media bias, “The media is digging deep to find out everything they– imagine if the media had acted this way with Bill Clinton and John Edwards back in their day.”

Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:

Limbaugh said, “Compare the attention that the drive-bys are giving all of these alleged mistresses. Compare that to the way they treated Gennifer Flowers and the other bimbo eruptions during the first Clinton campaign. They made excuses for Clinton. … Gennifer Flowers was ignored, and then she was mocked, and then discredited. And she had tapes!”

He continued, “And they went out of their way to save Bill Clinton and to destroy– even when the Lewinsky thing hit. They all joined forces and tried to make Ken Starr out to be some sex pervert. That was so laugh– but anyway. Now, with Tiger, all theses alleged mistresses are believed: Every word they say. The media is digging deep to find out everything they– imagine if the media had acted this way with Bill Clinton and John Edwards back in their day.”

It was only yesterday that Limbaugh was accusing Woods of contributing to the poor frame of mind of black people, but today, Tiger is the victim of liberal media bias. Rush’s memory of the Lewinsky scandal media coverage is totally off. The media was obsessed with this story. The scandal resulted in a de facto news blackout in the United States. Clinton/Lewinsky was the only story on the news.

The media did rush to save Bill Clinton. It can be argued that they fed the story with nonstop coverage of it. Tiger Woods carefully cultivated and marketed an image of himself as a pure all American good guy. It is a huge story when the public image of one of the world’s most popular athletes gets blown to shreds.

The media loves a good sex scandal, because sex scandals are great for ratings. There is no liberal media bias here. Unlike Rush Limbaugh the media has no political agenda when it comes to Tiger Woods. This is another example of Limbaugh trying to his ideology where it clearly doesn’t belong.

Rush Limbaugh Uses Tiger Woods to Attack the Black Frame of Mind

Dec 08 2009 Published by under Featured News

On his radio show today Rush Limbaugh was explaining to his listeners how black people have a terrible frame of mind because President Obama has abandoned them when he added, “I’m sure Tiger Woods’ choice of females not helping them out with their attitudes either.”

Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:

Limbaugh said, “Black unemployment is terrible. The black frame of mind is terrible. They’re depressed. They’re down, Obama not doing anything for them. How’s that hoax and change working for ya? They’re all livid. They thought there was going to be an exact 180 degree economic reversal, and it’s done nothing but get bad for everybody, but they’re especially upset about it because they look at him as one of them, and now they feel abandoned, and I’m sure Tiger Woods’ choice of females not helping them out with their attitudes either.”

This is why the NFL did not want Rush Limbaugh. The racism in his rant would be unbelievable if it didn’t come out of his mouth so often. What is more preposterous, Rush’s expertise on the black frame of mind, or his belief that black people feel let down by Obama? The funny thing is that in the 2012 election African Americans will likely express their feelings about Obama by voting for him again.

Limbaugh spun another racist tall tale for his audience. In Rush’s mind, Tiger Woods only let African Americans down because he is, “one of them.” The reality though is that Woods let down fans of all shapes, colors, and sizes. I guess to Limbaugh white people should have expected this from Woods, because to him it is what “they” do.
