The White House Slams the GOP Support of BP as Dangerous for America

Jun 20 2010 Published by under Featured News, White House

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel was on ABC’s This Week today, where he painted the Republican Party as dangerous to America due to their blind support of BP, “It’s dangerous for the American people.” Emanuel’s point was that if Republicans were in charge, there would be no regulation, and corporate America would run wild as they did during the Bush years.

Here is the video from ABC’s This Week:

Jake Tapper asked Emanuel if Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) should step down, and this gave Rahm the opening he needed to go off, “That’s for the Republicans to decide. What I think is more important, you can say it’s a political gift for us, and it is. But it’s dangerous for the American people, because while the ranking Republican would have oversight into the energy industry, and if the Republicans were the majority, would have actually the gavel and the chairmanship.”

Obama’s Chief of Staff tied Barton’s remarks to the overall Republican philosophy, “That’s not a political gaffe, those were prepared remarks. That is a philosophy. That is an approach to what they see. They see the aggrieved party here is BP, not the fishermen. And remember, this is not just one person. Rand Paul, running for Senate in Kentucky, what did he say? He said the way BP was being treated was un-American.”

He continued, “Other members of the Republican leadership have come to the defense of BP and attacked the administration for forcing them to set up an escrow account and fund it to the level of $20 billion. These aren’t political gaffes. You know, I’ve been in hearings. Joe Barton was speaking from prepared remarks. Rand Paul, who is running Kentucky, a leading Senate candidate for the Republicans said BP, the way they were being treated was un-American.”

Just to make sure that everyone watching got it, Emanuel repeated his point that the Republican defense of BP echoes their philosophy, “That is an approach to — they think the government is the problem. And in this balance, and the difference here is that BP made a mess. And the government, and also in the president’s view, in certain areas like MMS, hasn’t done its job.”

Republicans had best get used to this, because they are going to be bludgeoned with their defense of BP from now until November. Emanuel was correct that their defense of BP echoes the GOP’s larger philosophy that corporate America is always right, and that government exists to aid corporate America’s quest for profits. If the GOP is opposed to holding BP accountable for the worst environmental disaster in US history, then what exactly would it take for Republicans to regulate anyone?

Emanuel is the White House Chief of Staff, and one of the most powerful members of the administration, so when he ties the GOP to BP, then you can be certain that this is the White House strategy. In one swoop, the GOP managed to remind America why they voted them out of majority control and the White House. Republicans were so desperate to blame Obama for the oil spill that they couldn’t resist defending their old friend, Big Oil. The irony is that by defending BP, they have taken the focus off of Obama and placed it squarely upon themselves.

Rahm Emanuel: GOP Leaders Are Scared of the Tea Party

Mar 20 2010 Published by under Featured News, White House

Rahm delights in the GOP civil war.

In an interview that will air on CBS’ 60 Minutes on Sunday night, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel waded into the civil war that is going on within the Republican Party. Emanuel refused to identify the tea partiers by name, but he described the state of the GOP as being, “at the behest of a fringe group that’s taken control of their own party and their own leaders are scared of it.”

Here is the video:

Watch CBS News Videos Online

Katie Couric asked, “Do the midterm elections keep you up at night at all?” Emanuel answered, “No. You won’t know for a while. I think The Republicans have a level of energy but inside that energy they have their own problem and fissures. They’re basically at the behest of a fringe group that’s taken control of their own party and their own leaders are scared of it.” Couric asked if he was referring to the tea party movement, and Emanuel said, “I can give a more pertinent, a more informed answer in June and July.” (In other words, yes).

Emanuel is correct. The Republican Party is a mess, and if the economy was doing better right now, Democrats would be looking forward to expanding their majorities in November, but bad economic times always put incumbents in danger, and right now, Democrats have more incumbents than Republicans. The Republican Party still has no leadership, and the party establishment is dealing with a Tea Party insurgency.

The right wing has been waiting for decades for their chance to take over the GOP, and the election of Barack Obama along with the repeated failings of the RNC opened the door wide for them. In the long term, the Tea Partiers pose very little threat to the Democrats. They are so far to the right that if they do take over the GOP, the tea party movement will be giving the middle of the political spectrum to Democrats. A tea party overthrow of the GOP would be the best thing to happen to the Democratic Party in decades. Emanuel may not say it, but it is the truth.

Glenn Beck Falsely Claims that Nazis Learned Propaganda Use from Progressives

Feb 04 2010 Published by under Featured News

On his radio show today Glenn Beck continued his jihad against intelligence by saying, “The Nazis learned their propaganda from the progressive movement in the United States.” Here is another source for Glenn. Adolph Hitler wrote in Mein Kamph that the Nazis learned the value of propaganda from the British during World War I.

Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:

Beck said, “This is something that Woodrow Wilson. The Nazis, the Nazis learned their propaganda from the progressive movement in the United States. Go ahead, blogs right now tear it apart, and then go and read Josef Goebbels diaries, that’s the source, so I know it’s hard, I know it’s really, really hard to claim that, well there are no sources, except the guy who was the main guy for propaganda for Nazi Germany. They learned it from the progressives in America, Woodrow Wilson.”

Since Glenn invited people like me to tear this apart, let’s take a look. In Mein Kamph, Hitler devoted two chapters to use of propaganda. He blamed the German defeat in World War I partially on British propaganda. He went on to adopt many of the British techniques, especially in terms of literature, press, and film for the Nazi movement.

In a speech on propaganda in 1934, Goebbels listed those he viewed as propagandists, ” If the fine gentlemen say: “You are only a propagandist,” the answer is this: “Was Christ any different? Did he not make propaganda? Did he write books, or did he preach? Was Mohammed any different? Did he write learned essays, or did he go to the people and say what he wanted to say? Were not Buddha and Zarathustra propagandists?”

He continued, “True, the philosophers of the French Revolution built their intellectual foundations. But who got things moving? Robespierre, Danton, and the others. Did these men write books, or did they speak in popular meetings? Look around today. Is Mussolini more an author or a great speaker? When Lenin took the train from Zurich to Petersburg, did he repair to his study and write a book, or did he speak to thousands? Fascism and Bolshevism were built by great speakers, by masters of the spoken word! There is no difference between the politician and the speaker. History proves that great politicians were always great speakers: Napoleon, Caesar, Alexander, Mussolini, Lenin, name whomever you want. They were all great speakers and great organizers. If a person combines rhetorical talent, organizational ability, and philosophical ability, if he has the ability to transmit knowledge and to gather people under his banner, then he is a brilliant statesman.”

Beck has taken a right wing talking point, Wilson was a liberal fascist, and tried to tie it to the Nazis and progressives of today. Unfortunately, as with most of Glenn Beck’s claims, this doesn’t hold up under closer examination. The Nazis did not learn many of their propaganda techniques from American progressives, but from the British. Every time Glenn Beck speaks the world gets a little dumber.

2009: The Year of Right Wing Jihad against President Barack Obama

Dec 28 2009 Published by under Featured News

2009 began with the inauguration of our new and first African American President, Barack Obama, and became the year that GOP and the Extreme Right Wing of the party became energized and very proactive in its goal to be destructive to our new President and his administration and policies by any means necessary.

Obama’s election was electric, exciting, historic and emotional. The whole world was watching and a new wave of enthusiasm erupted from the young and the old. After a dismal, secretive, greed driven and war torn 8 years, a new sense of HOPE had emerged. There was a new spirit that we could once again believe in and the America that we all loved and were proud to be a part of could once again exist.

After massive support of Barack Obama, a new world order began. We put the weight and troubles of the world on one man and his vision and then waited for him to resolve it all. What I want to know is what happened to all that energy, drive and support that elected our fresh new and intelligent President? Why did we think that he could handle it alone? Where was our role and responsibility in the new administration and the CHANGE we were expecting and counting on?

Something else began during this same time period except it had the total opposite impact. Those who had suffered the strong and bitter loss began a new campaign as well with full participation of its membership. The GOP and the Extreme Right Wing of the party became energized and very proactive in its goal to be destructive to our new President and his administration and policies by any means necessary.

The poison spread rapidly. It began with the announcement of Sarah Palin as the running mate for John Mc Cain. She ignited the right wing with wild and extremely wild accusations against then Senator Barack Obama. Fact checking was a vague after thought by the media who once followed Obama. They now had a new media sensation that they found to be far more
exciting and facts and intelligence was not a requirement. The seeds were planted and the main stream media outlets joined forces with the Republican Party and the people who had successfully elect President Barack Obama took a back seat and silently watched the drama play out.

President Barack Obama began his bi-partisan approach to establishing his administration and policies for the country. After the Bush/Cheney administration took the country to the brink of disaster economically, Obama discovered the country was in much worse shape than he had been led to believe before taking office.

As the war in Iraq was winding down, the war in Afghanistan had been left in turmoil. Many of the secrets of the Bush administration had begun to unravel. The neglect in Afghanistan had turned into massive corruption and a Taliban that was much stronger and more established. Troops were barely supported. The surge had reduced the violence in Iraq but violence had increased elsewhere.

The status of the economy had taken priority front and center. It required a bold and massive stimulus to even begin to simply prevent the US from falling off the cliff into the deep depression that the Bush administration had created and walked quietly away from. With the support of main stream media, the GOP began their assault and to this day, they have not let up. They made wild accusations based off seriously misleading information. FOX cable news took the leadership role with the attacks by Glenn Beck, Hannity and others.

Every member of the GOP who wanted to speak out received major air time. Facts were not required. And then Rush Limbaugh, Palin and newly elected GOP leader Steele began their attacks. Back in the days of real journalism versus sensationalism, this would not have happened without verifiable facts to support the claims.

Next out of the dark dangerous world of GOP politics emerges the highly secretive and power hungry former VP Dick Cheney. He has appeared on camera more in the last year speaking out against President Barack Obama then all eight years combined under the Bush administration.

His whole motive was to destroy the image and character of the new President and save his own legacy by implying weakness and trying to change the facts that it was he and the Bush administration who had hurt the country the most through the destruction of the economy and falsely leading America into war with Iraq including illegal torture that is yet to be proven beneficial as he has claimed. His chief of staff was convicted of leaking and endangering the identity of a CIA agent. It was the first time that a conviction had gotten than close to the
office of the Presidency.

In the meantime throughout the course of 2009, President Barack Obama was working hard to resolve the disastrous economy, two wars, a pandemic, joblessness climbing at
a rate the country had not seen in several years, a housing crisis, healthcare reform that was bankrupting and denying millions of Americans coverage and claims and more.

Obama has worked on improving the image of America worldwide. His message is one of peace during wartime. He has managed to move healthcare reform further than any previous President who has tried. He was successfully able to get an intelligent and highly qualified Latina female appointed as a Supreme Court justice and lots more. The GOP has fought him every step of the way on everything.

During this first year of office, where was the support of the media for the President of the US? Where was the left wing? All of the progressives speaking out against Obama now, where were you all year during the attacks and negative drive of the right? In August during those ridiculous town hall meetings that had nothing to do with healthcare other than the confused citizens screaming that they did not want the government running their Medicare!!! If the left and the right are screaming at Barack Obama, maybe it means he is doing something for the majority. Stop your complaining for a minute and take a serious look at the progress and the prevention of disaster.

President Barack Obama has been pragmatic and he is working for the long haul and for the people. If you really examine this time period in our history, this is a period of major transformation. Any leader during this time will have to endure pressure from all directions because he must lead and navigate through the chaos and turmoil that the real CHANGE will cause before the benefit is actualized.

Major structures such as government bodies, corporations, institutions, etc. will have to change because it is time. I wonder how it would be if the President really had the support of those who elected him. Let’s give him time to do the extremely difficult task that he has taken on and that we have given him.

This mess was not created in a year and it is going to take more than a year to alter. These are extremely difficult times, but it could have been much worse if it were not for President Barack Obama. Let’s work with him and not against him. We have to fight the Extremists who represent destruction. It is time to be co creators in the change that is necessary.

There are not many real journalists left to report the news. The cable news giants have bought into the GOP sensationalism. Ask yourselves what you can do to require the mainstream media outlets to report the truth and shy away from the misleading and unsubstantiated claims of the GOP in the New Year? The President needs our support. Everything is at stake.

The 2009 Political Naughty or Nice List

Dec 22 2009 Published by under Featured News

In just a few short days Santa will be delivering presents to the nice and coal to the naughty. We were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at Santa’s list to see what some of America’s top political figures can be expecting for Christmas. There will be some surprises under the tree for Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin and others.

1). Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV)

Fran Joy: Nice – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is just that . . . nice—a little too nice. He’s up for reelection in 2010 and the stress is on. This Healthcare Reform Bill constructed by the Senate has truly been a nightmare so far. With 60 votes needed to stop any GOP filibuster, the liberal and moderate DEMs have given nice Harry Reid nothing but thorns in his side. The Blue Dog DEMS are simply the GOP in disguise. They think like, act like, lie like, and vote like the GOP—the party of “NO”—in spite of any and all compromises made by nice Senator Reid. Now, we’re left with a watered down bill that mildly resembles R E F O R M.

Sarah Jones: – Nice, Nice, Nice! Santa will stand up for Harry even though the Progressives hate him right now, because Harry managed to corral the centrists and corporacractic Dems together to get a friggin’ bill passed in spite of Joe Lieberman and the Rebiblican Thugs. Heavy liftin’, Harry! Santa has faith that the Seed will Blossom in later amendments, so Santa gives Harry a whip to amend the bill with next year.

Dog Gone: Naughty – for compromising too often, and negotiating away too much. He failed to recognize push has come to shove. Better to have let the Republicans waste their time and effort these many months filibustering something worthwhile, until they ran out of hot air, than to have gutted health care reform and caved to a strident, lying, but well organized minority. Harry, you were out-politicked!

Brandon Crow: Naughty – Basically, the man is weak and ineffective. Well, maybe impotent is better. He’s “effective” in the sense that things are done, but he doesn’t seem to have the “ganas” to really get things done with the efficacy and verve that his position should be able to accomplish, especially considering he’s got a Democratic majority and control of the White House.

Toby Green: Naughty – Reid has shown no leadership on Health care. Instead of forcing a showdown against critics of healthcare reform he has given one concession after another to the right wing.

Harry Reid almost made the Nice list, but he’ll be getting a lump of COAL in is stocking.

2). Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT)

Fran Joy: Naughty – and totally self-involved Joe Lieberman is the worst U.S. Senator to have ever once been called a Democrat. He is not to be trusted and should be stripped of his position in the Senate. This traitor is an embarrassment to the President of the US after speaking against him at the 2008 GOP convention. As an agent of the GOP and the mighty and corrupt Insurance giants, Joe Lieberman is not a Senator who represents or cares about the people of the United States. He is a snake . . . and a very naughty one now disguised as an Independent but he’s really a GOP snitch.

Sarah Jones: Naughty – Because it’s naughty to lie. Santa defers to the Grand Lizard’s tweet re Lie: “Joe Lieberman standing for his principles on healthcare is being viciously attacked by the liberal left…what a disgrace!” It’s hard out there for a pimp, teetering between parties, getting whiplash as he justifies his flip flops based on his corporate endorsements, self-immolating beyond recognition only to be called out by damned liberals who want him to vote for the people. Droopy Joe’s finally going to embrace his love for war and terror and join the Republican party, so Santa gives the Lie a kick in the a$$ for being a sellout and happily waves goodbye.

Dog Gone: Naughty – I’d suggest a stocking full of coal, but that would be like bringing coals to New Castle – or in Lieberman’s case, bringing coals to Hell.

Brandon Crow: Naughty – Clearly, Joe is enjoying his role as Kingmaker or Spoiler. But I think he’s a little too focused about himself nowadays than he is with the good of the nation. The man should probably just officially declare his switch to the Republican Party and get it over with. Let the Dems work on electing an actual liberal to that seat in the Senate.

Toby Green: Nice – he may end up saving us from a bill that has no single payer or public option in it. Although he us doing it for all of the wrong
reasons. Human need should not be trumped by the budget.

It is going to be a bleak holiday for the naughty Lieberman.

3). Glenn Beck

Fran Joy: Naughty – Glen Beck is first and foremost a hypocrite of the worst kind. He called Obama a racist, when he, in fact, is a racist redneck hate and fear monger. Beck, disguised as a Fox news journalist, would do well in a modern day KKK. He pretends to be a passionate patriot, but he uses the tragedy of the 9/11 attacks to criticize the families of its victims and promote his anti-Obama agenda. Even though he lost millions of ad dollars after widespread protests of his bold attacks on our President, I fear that there’s enough evil and greedy people left in the U.S. to support his rantings for a long time to come.

Sarah Jones: Naughty – Patriot Glenn had a riotous year defending our freedoms from Obama God hatin’ libs, careening between terrorfests like a drunken clown. Racist Color of Change shut down his advertising revenue, but like the Morman Christ, he forged on, propelled by tears and hysteria, all the way to his failed Christmas Sweater project. He’s the only person brave enough to stand up to the racists at Acorn whilst unveiling the evils of the Obama “Oligarcy”. Glenn wins Santa’s hatriot of the year award!

Dog Gone: Nice because outside of “peopleofwalmart.com”, where else can you find someone who so consistently makes you laugh at how ridiculous HE is, AND who makes you realize that it isn’t snobbery, WE really ARE superior.

Brandon Crow: Naughty Well, nutty, more like it. Let’s face it, when you make Bill O’Reilly sound like a moderate, you’re off the deep end. And if that isn’t proof enough, when you draw crazy stuff on a chalk board that’s supposed to connect Obama’s birth certificate to socialism to the collapse of the banks to ACORN to God knows what…well, you’re not just naughty but your [you're] certifiable.

Toby Green: Naughty – This year’s version of Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly shows what would have happened had the brown shirts of Nazi Germany had cable TV. Namely, corporate sanctified persecution brought out 24 hours a day.

We’re certain that Mr. Beck will soon be claiming that Santa is conspiring against him.

4). Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi

Fran Joy: Nice – Nancy just does not take crap from anyone. She sticks by her principles and maintains her focus. She is a very strong leader and quite a force to be reckoned with. Nancy is naughty enough to keep the GOP going crazy and that in of itself is remarkable. As hard as they try, the GOP can’t control her or destroy her. She stands her ground with them, the CIA, and anyone else you want to throw at her. Naughty Nancy Pelosi is a historical “Speaker of the House” and a true representation of a woman of substance, strength, and determination who works on behalf of the people of the United States.

Sarah Jones: – Nice Nancy takes a lot of crap from Liberals and Conservatives, but she keeps forging on, overcoming their desperation to destroy her no matter what they throw in her path. Last year she was maligned by the FBI to boot, and no one believed her until the facts came to her defense months after Liberals had her head on a plank in the town center. While Nancy may not be Santa’s favorite person, Santa has a soft spot for any woman who can take on the Bush FBI. Santa gives Nancy a secret tape recorder that will always be on, no matter where she is. You go, girl!

Dog Gone: Nice- because she got her part of ‘the job’ passing health care reform done in the House.

Brandon Crow: Nice – Not sure what all the griping and moaning about Pelosi has been about over the past year. I mean, conservatives have certainly singled her out for some reason, but who really understands some of these conservatives today.

Toby Green: Nice - if by nice you mean occupying a seat that Cindy Sheehan should have won in the last election cycle. The House has been more progressive than the Senate- they have started stickering their house seats with sponsors ala NASCAR style in an effort to justify their support of bank bailout plans.

Who would have guessed that Nancy Pelosi would be the first to make Santa’s Nice list?

5). Sarah Palin

Fran Joy: Naughty – Sarah began her hate mongering early in the McCain campaign with her wild accusations and lies against Obama. She has a pattern of quitting her positions, based on the lure and ambition offered by richer and greener pastures. After dumping Alaska to conquer the greater mainland, she not only avoided drowning in a number of ethics issues and legal battles, she put herself in line for the millions available to media sensations of no substance like herself. Using her family to support her claims of victimization, she markets her own brand of ridiculously constructed claims and associated falsehoods.

Sarah Jones: Nice – Santa is beguiled by the Narcissicus of the North’s lies about Death panels, quittin’ her job and then issuin’ deluded policy dictums from Facebook &Twitter and brawlin’ with Letterman. The “Little Shop of Horrors” “Wack job” “rogue diva” “sociopath” “sheer fiction”“ snake in the ground” scrappy pitbull “Wasilla Hillbilly” Bircher Secessionist has kept Americans entertained for a year whilst looting the pockets of her true believers and simultaneously raising tons of money for Democrats. Sister Sarah wins Santa’s Liar of the Year Award, but also, too, a big Nice for being Democratic Fund Raiser of the Year!

Dog Gone: Nice – because when she quit as governor of Alaska, it was like Christmas came early, with a generous extra present from Santa when Palin won the inaugural Politifact.com 2009 Lie of the Year contest.

Brandon Crow: Naughty. 1000 times naughty – The queen of the CostCo Book Tour has basically been telling and living bigger lies than Tiger Woods. Death Panels? Bus Tour? And then there’s the self important angle: Ms. “I Quit” still demands to be called governor…um… I think I’ll stop here because there’s nothing I can say that the very capable Sarah Jones of this site hasn’t already said so aptly in her numerous, piercing columns on Bible Smurf.

Toby Green: Niiiiiiiceee! – So beautiful, so much comedy, so much stupidity. She discredits the far right better than any human on earth. I love her.

You betcha!!! Santa gives a very sarcastic Nice to Sarah Palin

6). Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT)

Fran Joy: Naughty – Chris Dodd has been operating under the radar for his questionable ethics, especially his Senatorial role in association with the banking and housing industries. So far, he has squeaked through; but his reelection may be in question. As a senior Democratic senator, he inherited the position Teddy Kennedy held. We wanted him to provide the same kind of strength and leadership qualities that Ted possessed, but he seems to be falling short of Kennedy’s mission. Once he passes his own health hurdle, I hope he can help get Healthcare Reform passed. Then he might be justifiably reelected to the Senate in 2010.

Sarah Jones: Nice - Dodd had to skip his own re-election fundraiser to vote on appropriation legislation because Democrats seem to not hate government. Hmmm…..Santa hopes a miracle happens and Dodd gets re-elected, lest a Republican who just can’t say yes take his place. Santa gives Dodd her vote!

Dog Gone: Naughty – for his continuing conflicts of interest, supporting Wall Street greed while he chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

Brandon Crow: No opinion.

Toby Green: Nice – Sure it’s likely that he is tied to big banks and is a crook. But that hairdo- my god it’s great.

Much like his political future Santa is unclear about Chris Dodd

7). Dick Cheney

Fran Joy: Naughty – as a word to describe Dick Cheney seems much too mild for a man of his level of deceit, corruption, and evilness. As a former VP, literally operating in the shadows of former President Bush, he ignored warnings of a potential terrorist attack, opened the way for a vicious attack against the U.S. on 9/11, led our country into a bogus war costing thousands of lives and billions of dollars, and operated a secret torture operation. His chief of staff was convicted of a CIA leak that resulted in the first federal conviction that close to the office of President. And now he has come out of hiding to make un-American declarations of weakness about our current President that actually create and mislead the view of other world leaders, thus placing us in a vicarious position.

Sarah Jones: Naughty Naughty Naughty – Santa is very unhappy to learn that The Dick thinks he should run his “Go F*ck Yourself!” self as President in 2012, especially after The Dick warned America that the “Ditherer” –in-Chief (That’s President to you, Dick) would not look after Americans safety and they might be attacked on his watch! See, Santa remembers Americans being attacked twice on Dick’s watch and then having all of their freedoms taken away. NO, Santa no likely The Dick. COAL for The Dick.

Dog Gone: Naughty, – for failing to understand his wrinkly old behind was voted out of office in the 2008 election, and for continuing to try to encourage and justify torture. Don’t go away mad Dick; just go away – quietly.

Brandon Crow: Naughty. WAAAAYYYY naughty – Darth Vader did plenty of damage in his tours in government. But what really makes him naughty is that as Vice President, the guy was literally and figuratively hidden away in some cave of “undisclosed location.” But now that he’s out of office, he’s got more face time on TV than “that other guy with a big head,” Jack in the Box. Is it just me or does anyone else think that Cheney’s roles should have been reversed?

Toby Green: Naughty- There is a new book out that links Cheney to the killing of John Kennedy. Makes sense, he was key in destroying American Democracy, what difference is it if he killed the best President we have had since FDR.

Santa is not one of the 20% + who approve of Dick Cheney

8). Vice President Joe Biden

Fran Joy: Nice – Joe Biden is guilty of the rare oddity of speaking the truth while holding political office. Hardworking and good natured Joe is passionate and sincere about his love for America, our military, and our middle class. He is genuine, sincere and focused on the good that he can bring to this nation and its people. Joe Biden exemplifies family values and the core principles and beliefs that America has historically represented. Hopefully, Biden will push for building that high-speed train across America. It will not only provide thousands of jobs, it will bring us up to the 21st century. Go Joe.

Sarah Jones: Nice! – Joe is the Chair of the Middle Class Task Force that the Obama administration initiated — in addition to being in charge of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. There’s something about knowing Joe is looking after hard working American families that just makes Santa feel good. And Joe’s always fought hard for women’s rights, so this Santa can’t get enough of the Joe; Say it IS so, Joe! Wink, wink. Santa hugs the gaffe prone Veep.

Dog Gone: Nice, enough – In typical veep tradition, except for the occasional faux pas comment, Biden has kept an overall lower profile than Cheney. Perhaps we will get lucky, and in 2010, they will switch roles.

Brandon Crow: No opinion – But he’s sliding towards naughty on my list. Whatever happened to “nobody messes with Joe?” Wasn’t he supposed to be the ultimate watch dog over those TARP funds? And how’s that going?

Toby Green: Forgotten – What has Joe Biden done in the last year? The man is the definition of a corporate democrat. Fortunately, he can’t do any harm in the meaningless seat known as the vice presidency.

Vice President Joe Biden squeaks on to Santa’s Nice list.

9). Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN)

Fran Joy: Naughty – Michelle Bachmann is a joke. Hold political office in our Congress as a conservative Republican, and you’re almost unrecognizable as a substantial lawmaker—especially when you have the misfortune to be Michelle Bachman who sounds like a lunatic in a Saturday Night Live Comedy skit . . . except she’s serious.

Sarah Jones: Naughty – Bush stalker and “Pro-America” investigator Michelle FEMA camp-crier and re-education camp fear-monger Bachmann has had a great year contending for Republican Clown of the year. Her coup de grace came as she lead a prayer against HealthCare Reform just days ago, and continued as she squeezed her Crazy Eyes shut to: “I just pray that You will frustrate the plans of the Evil One” (aka; Our President). Naughty Michelle; Jesus doesn’t hate the poor and the middle class. But Santa pities the ignorant that use Jesus’ name in hate.

Dog Gone: Nice – The gift that keeps on giving. Bachmann continues to provide over-the-top extremist events that are like holiday presents to sites like the Minnesota-based site “DumpMicheleBachmann.com”, who then kindly gift wrap them with pretty bows for the rest of us to enjoy, without us having to monitor her craziness full time ourselves.

Brandon Crow: Naughty – Man, talk about naughty to nutty! This girl can give Glen Beck a run for his money I am soooo hoping for a Palin/Bachmann ticket from the Republicans in 2012! Just think of it: Bible Smurf and McCarthy Smurf! What a dream ticket!

Toby Green: naughty – Sorry Michelle, you give Al Franken a bad name. Minnesota is Al Franken’s turf and you are spoiling it- bad Michelle!

Santa buries Bachmann deep down on his Naughty list.

10). President Barack Obama

Fran Joy: Naughty – President Obama has finally gotten angry, less diplomatic, and nice. After several meetings and speeches in Copenhagen for the conference on climate control, there was no solid agreement reached. But President Obama refused to leave without having made some progress, so he requested a meeting with the top leaders. To his surprise, some of the leaders were already meeting without him or had left for the airport. Naughty Barack “The Rock” Obama decided to storm the meeting and demand a verbal agreement to move forward on climate control. Before the weekend was over, Naughty Obama had handled his business, jumped on Air Force One in the midst of a coming snow storm, and made it back to the White House in time to make sure the Senate continued to progress on Healthcare Reform.

Sarah Jones: Nice — real, real nice! – In spite of a Republican party led by Rush Oxycontin Limbaugh and Glenn Cry-Wolf Beck, President Hopey has managed to accomplish more in his first 11 months than most Presidents full terms pre-WWII. Even His Steadiness Hopey couldn’t have imagined the epic disaster the Faux Cowboy and his Gang of Thugs would leave him, so Santa is leaving Hopey extra oranges! Santa loves a diplomat who knows how to spread the joy; extra points for marrying a Strong, Smart Lady and being an example of REAL Family Values for the Rebiblican Sinners. Santa loves Hopey. She just does.

Dog Gone: Naughty, – for being more willing to fight the Taliban than the opposition to Health Care Reform; and for not addressing DOMA and the status of gays in the military; and for not being more effective in getting financial services sector reform that makes an effective difference.

Brandon Crow: Nice – The dude is trying. His first year reminds of something comedian Chris Rock used to say about the OJ Simpson verdict: White people too angry and black people too happy. Well, in his first year, it seems Obama has conservatives totally pissed at him. And, in an interesting twist, he’s got liberals ticked at him. Well, I think that says the man is doing a decent job. Politics is the art of compromise; if both sides are unhappy, then I guess the man is doing some good “middle of the road” work.

Toby Green: NAUGHTY- No witty puns here. The man is a fraud. Picking up the nobel peace prize is funny enough – mostly because Alfred Nobel invented the dynamite- but then giving a speech that furthered the Bush Doctrine is hysterical. I personally voted for Obama and campaigned for him. So yes, Virgina there is a Santa Claus but there is not a man with real integrity in the White House, only a puppet of banks and the military.

Obama makes the Nice list, because Santa likes some of his recently naughty ways.

Glenn Beck Adds Some Sexism to His Latest Attack on Healthcare

Dec 16 2009 Published by under Featured News

On his radio show today Glenn Beck wove a new conspiracy theory into his latest attack on healthcare reform, and just for kicks added some sexism. Beck said that labor unions and Soros Foundation are behind healthcare reform. He added healthcare reform is like asking a crazy woman to marry you, because chicks never change.

Here is the video courtesy of Media Matters:

Beck said, “This guy is sly as a fox. He knows exactly what he is doing, and it’s not him. He’s the front man. When does this guy have time to be president? Have you noticed how much he’s on television? He’s not designing this stuff. He’s not the man. He’s the salesman. He’s the front man. The labor unions and special interest groups and the Soros Foundations those are the people who are putting all this together, and they have put it together a long long time ago, since FDR first said these words, “Once you open this door.” No matter what they tell you, oh this one’s not so bad. Yes it is. It’s bad for a myriad of reasons. The number one reason is the infrastructure never goes away. The control never goes away.”

He then added the sexism, “The day this is passed, remember this is just like a marriage. If your future husband is speaking ill of his future wife or being in any way abuse or a jerk on the day of the wedding, look out. A year from the wedding he is going to be a nightmare, the same for her. If she’s a witch the day of the wedding, well, women are different. If she is a witch before you marry her, they’re going to be witches on the day of the wedding. Trust me on that one. It’s just the way chicks are they go crazy on wedding day, so six months, a year, the day you ask her to marry you, if she’s crazy, look out, it ain’t gonna work. The day they put this healthcare plan through is our wedding day. It doesn’t get better than that.”

What we have learned here is that labor unions and George Soros are the ones really behind healthcare reform, even though George Soros was born in 1930, and union movement didn’t actually blossom until the post war boom. By the way, Glenn managed to use part of an FDR quote that had nothing to do with healthcare.

If Republicans are still wondering why a majority of women don’t support, maybe they should look at Beck’s marriage advice a little more closely. Basically, he is saying that all women are irrational and can never change, because women are different from men in that way. Notice that men are jerks but women are witches. I think we have found yet another subject that Glenn Beck knows absolutely nothing about.

Keith Olbermann Destroys the Myth of Liberal Media Bias

Dec 15 2009 Published by under Featured News

On his MSNBC program Countdown host Keith Olbermann got on the subject of liberal media bias while discussing Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly’s outrage at being mentioned on Law and Order: SVU. Olbermann said, “There is no liberal media. The media which is after all owned by corporations naturally leans to the right.”

Here is the video:

While talking about Andrew Breitbart’s new site, Olbermann said, “Let me give him two windmills to tilt at to start with. There is no liberal media. The media, which is after all owned by corporations, naturally leans to the right. Corporations by definition lean to the right, towards the status quo. If an American media outlet presents a progressive point of view, the right will exploit the media’s tendency to desperately seek balance. If the progressive says Obama was elected president last year, they will mindlessly put in a clip of somebody from the right saying no he wasn’t, it didn’t happen.”

Later Olbermann hammered his point home, “And to paraphrase something from the web from several years ago written by a fellow identifying himself as Bartcop, if Mr. Beck disagrees, or Mr. Goldberg disagrees, or Mr. O’Reilly disagrees, or Mr. Breitbart disagrees and think they are being crushed under the weight of this vast left wing conspiracy, they can go on the Orly Taitz Limbaugh show where Orly will insist that conservatives have no voice in the media, or go on the Sean Hannity show will Sean will insist that conservatives have no voice in the media, or go on Cluster Fox and Friends where Brian Kilmeade will insist that conservatives have no voice in the media, or go on Mike Huckabee’s show, where Mike will insist conservatives have no voice in the media, or go on G. Gordon Liddy’s radio show where G will insist conservatives have no voice in the media, or go on Michael Medved’s show where Michael will insist conservatives have no voice in the media, or go on Mark Levin’s high pitched radio show where Mark will insist conservatives have no high pitched voice in the media, or go on the Neal Boortz show where Neal will insist conservatives have no voice in the media…”

Olbermann goes on for a few minutes to mention every major national conservative voice in the media who will ironically enough all suggest that conservatives have no voice in the media. I don’t buy Olbermann’s claim that Beck, Limbaugh, and O’Reilly incite violence, but he did deliver the best description of why the right wing’s liberal media bias claim is total nonsense.

The whole myth of liberal media bias has been passed down in conservative circles for decades, and like anything else there could have been some truth to it way back when, but in 2009 conservatives dominate the media. One would think that the liberal media bias argument would fall apart simply based on the huge number of conservatives in the media.

However, the right wing always needs to feel persecuted, so they continue to ignore the fact that they control the media, while ranting and raving about the few liberals who left on the media landscape. Olbermann did a great job of point just how quickly this myth falls apart when facts start to be introduced.

Glenn Beck Compares Climate Change Deniers to Galileo

Dec 14 2009 Published by under Featured News

On his Fox News program tonight, Glenn Beck gave another fractured history lesson as he compared climate change deniers to Galileo. Beck said, “The climate cult is just as much of a state sponsored religion now as the actual state sponsored religion was back in the Dark Ages.”

Here is the video courtesy of Media Matters:

Beck said, “It’s also interesting to me that we are the ones being compared to flat earth believers, yet if you know history, I mean the basic rudimentary history, you know the word Galileo, the man who fought against the power structure of his own time to enlighten mankind that the earth wasn’t flat, and that the sun not the earth that was the center of solar system. It was those who held power that tried to shut him down, just as those who are in power now try to shut up all who disagree now.”

He continued, “Galileo is in the tower again. You would think that the scientists would understand their own history. The climate cult is just as much of a state sponsored religion now as the actual state sponsored religion was back in the Dark Ages. Punishing Galileo and locking him in a tower for his opinions and they’re once again locking away the dissenters in a tower of fear harassment and an atmosphere of discrediting some, what is it now 30,000 plus scientists?”

In bizarro Beck world, the people who are opposed to science are just like Galileo, while the actual scientists are like the church in the Dark Ages. When put this way, Beck’s point sounds even dumber. I didn’t think it would be possible for Glenn to mangle history anymore than he already has, but tonight he hit a new low.

MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann Celebrates Glenn Beck’s Latest Flop

Dec 07 2009 Published by under Featured News

Tonight on the Best Persons segment of MSNBC program Countdown host Keith Olbermann took a little time to compliment the American people for not buying tickets to Glenn Beck’s half live half movie performance of his book The Christmas Sweater. Olbermann pointed out that only 64 people combined bought tickets in New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C.

Here is the video:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Olbermann said, “Number one best taste, the people of the United States of America. Remember the big Lonesome Rhodes/Beck extravaganza last week, a half live a half movie version of simulcast of his book The Christmas Sweater that rip off of The Gift of the Magi that was shown in theaters nationwide?”

He continued, “It sold 30 tickets. In Washington, D.C., 30 people bought tickets to see Glenn Beck cry. In New York and Boston it was 34, but that was combined. But of course you say, New York’s all socialists, fascists, communists, what about where the real people live, like in Rockwall, TX? Ninety four tickets in Texas, 94 in a theater holding 193. On top of which, Beck’s ratings among younger viewers down 30% for the first week of this month down 30% from the first week of last month. The next time he cries it will be for an entirely different reason.”

There have been signs around the edges of Beck’s numbers that his popularity is starting to drop a little. His ratings were in a strong upward trend that was boosted from the right after he called President Obama a racist, and the Color of Change boycott proved to be effective.

Beck’s numbers still dominate his time slot, but at his peak he was coming close to, if not passing, the 3 million viewer mark. Since then he has settled into drawing 2 million or so viewers a day. He has the second highest rated program in cable news, and his time slot is up 101% over last year.

While Beck remains a ratings force, he has had quite a few failures, the tea parties, his 9/11 protest, and now the Christmas special that attracted indifference. Glenn Beck can sell truckloads of books, attract television ratings, but he is not quite the force that he seems to believe he is.

Keith Olbermann painted a picture of Beck as a star on the decline. I don’t think that I would go that far, but in an effort to cash in while he is a hot property, Glenn Beck is overexposing himself, and I think Beck’s movement into politics, especially if he turns his back on the GOP, will end his popularity.

Glenn Beck Proclaims That the Devil Himself is in the Obama Administration

Dec 07 2009 Published by under Featured News

While ranting about possible new EPA regulations to reduce corporate CO2 emissions on his radio show today, Glenn Beck proclaimed that the devil is in the Obama administration. Beck said, “The devil is in the administration. In fact, I believe that he holds several titles and several offices.”

Here is the video courtesy of Media Matters:

Beck said, “You know everybody is talking about Copenhagen and what’s happening there and healthcare, but the EPA is doing something today..” Beck then directly quoted a statement from the Chamber of Commerce, “An endangerment finding from the EPA could result in a top-down command-and-control regime that will choke off growth by adding new mandates to virtually every major construction and renovation project,” Thomas Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement. “The devil will be in the details, and we look forward to working with the government to ensure we don’t stifle our economic recovery.”

Beck left out the last half of the last sentence of the statement and substituted his own little commentary about the devil, “The devil is in the administration. In fact, I believe that he holds several titles and several offices.”Apparently Beck now believes that Satan himself is the Obama administration, and interestingly enough, he is opposed to climate change.

One would think that the devil would not be opposed to the earth getting hotter, but in the mixed up mind of political commentator/evangelist Glenn Beck, anything is possible.

Beck is trying to play to evangelical community with comments such as this. If you listen carefully to Beck, you will realize that he is quickly moving from commentator to politician. I view his comments today as another signal of his intentions to form a third, more right wing party.
