Catholic nuns get on the bus to get out the word, but not the word Rome wants…

Jun 30 2012 Published by under Featured News

I am not a Catholic nor do I have anything against Catholics. Some of my best friends are Catholics. At least I think so.

Let me stop right there.

Here’s the thing; you may or may not have been paying attention to some of the ruckus going on recently within the Catholic Church regarding what appears to be a decision by the top dog Catholic leaders in Rome to reassert (reimpose) a more conservative vision of Catholicism. That more conservative vision is apparently designed to rein in some of the more liberal strays from the pack who have been spending way too much time on such issues as caring about what happens to poor people. In case you think I’m lying, check this out. Or you can check this out from a recent article in the Los Angeles Times.

The Vatican has ordered an overhaul of the most important group of nuns in the United States after an investigation found what Roman Catholic Church officials called “radical feminist themes” that questioned official positions on homosexuality and the ordination of women.

In a bluntly worded report, the Vatican’s watchdog of orthodoxy, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, found what it called “serious doctrinal problems” with some of the comments and actions by the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, based in Silver Spring, Md. The Vatican on Wednesday named Archbishop Peter Sartain of Seattle to oversee changes in the group, a process that could take up to five years.

The Leadership Conference, which says it has more than 1,500 members representing more than 80% of the 57,000 women religious in the United States, stated it was “stunned” by the official assessment.

“This is a moment of great import for religious life and the wider church,” the group said in a statementposted on its website. “We ask your prayers as we meet with the LCWR National Board within the coming month to review the mandate and prepare a response.”

The Vatican’s actions come at a time when Rome appears to be reasserting its conservative vision over some elements of the church, particularly in the United States.

Nuns have questioned a variety of church positions, including the ban on ordaining women. In 2010, American bishops opposed the Obama administration’s healthcare insurance overhaul, but some nuns were very visible in supporting the plan, whose constitutionality is now being considered by the Supreme Court.

In its assessment of the Leadership Conference, the Vatican cited letters from some in the group “protesting the Holy See’s actions regarding the question of women’s ordination and of a correct pastoral approach to ministry to homosexual persons.”

“The terms of the letters suggest that these sisters collectively take a position not in agreement with the Church’s teaching on human sexuality. It is a serious matter when these Leadership Teams are not providing effective leadership and example to their communities, but place themselves outside the Church’s teaching,” the report said.

So it does seem safe to say that the target of a fair amount of this whipping-into-line has been directed at the nuns, whom the church would like to spend more time speaking out against such morality-destroying issues as gay marriage and such. Don’t worry about those young boys being molested by those straight Catholic priests because, well, they’re not gay. At least I guess that’s the rationale because, truth be told? Who the hell knows how you make sense of that.

So anyway, there are these nuns who now even have their own website, and it’s called Nuns on the Bus. Pretty basic, I know. Nothing evangelically fancy pants like The Holiest of Rollers or His Holy Caravan. But then I don’t guess there’s any real need to be flashy when the mission is so plain and straightforward that it doesn’t require much embellishment, namely to tour the country letting folks know just how dangerous and destructive the Ryan Budget Plan really is to ordinary people – and then offering an alternative and far more humane budget. I doubt I’ll be converting to Catholicism anytime soon, but you can definitely sign me up as a fan of  these intrepid (and rather brave) nuns who have calmly registered their response to conservative Rome by getting on a bus and heading in the other direction. Let them tell you themselves:

Every hour of each day, Catholic Sisters stand in solidarity with all who live in poverty, and we confront injustice and systems that cause suffering.

We cannot stand by silently when the U.S. Congress considers further enriching the wealthiest Americans at the expense of struggling, impoverished families.

As part of our campaign for budget fairness we are taking a bus trip. Our bus will travel to places in many states where Sisters actively serve people in need. For they are our best witnesses to the suffering our federal government must not ignore.

We ask all who visit this website to join us in prayer and to support our work to defeat government actions that would add to the suffering of already struggling families. …

As Catholic Sisters, we must speak out against the current House Republican budget, authored by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI). We do so because it harms people who are already suffering.

The Ryan Budget would:

  • Raise taxes on 18 million hardworking low-income families while cutting taxes for millionaires and big corporations.
  • Push the families of 2 million children into poverty.
  • Kick 8 million people off food stamps and 30 million off health care.

NETWORK’s Executive Director, Sister Simone Campbell, said in a recent media interview that Catholic Sisters “know the real-life struggles of real-life Americans.”  It is this knowledge that impelled us to organize this bus trip. When the federal government cuts funding to programs that serve people in poverty, we see the effects in our daily work. Simply put, real people suffer. That is immoral. Click on the links below to see how the Ryan budget affects people in your state.

We have an alternative.

A collaboration of Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other faith communities and organizations, The Faithful Budget promotes comprehensive and compassionate budget principles that helps lift the burden on the poor, rather than increasing it while shielding the wealthiest from any additional sacrifice. View the faithful budget here.

When the nuns are pissed off enough to become revolutionaries, you know we’re in for a serious fight folks.

Same Song, Second Verse in Mexican Presidential Election

Jun 30 2012 Published by under Featured News

To our north – Canada, eh? A bit nippy at times (but global warming will take care of that) but always a warm welcome to assorted visitors, fishermen, immigrants, second home to Viet Nam decliners and the occasional professional American baseball and basketball teams. In return we get pro hockey, Pam Anderson and their most gifted comics, plus passportless entry to one of nature’s most pleasant vistas and several cosmopolitan cities. Toronto is one of my all-time favorites. Montreal can be breathtaking. And you gotta love a country that names it’s two-dollar coin, Toonsie, like a favorite pet.

To our south, it’s a different story. On Sunday, Mexico will have vote to elect a new President, senators and new Chamber of Deputies members. You’ve not heard of the almost certain presidential winner. We only pay attention to the latest drug-war causality counts, not that it moves us to attempt even the most modest of countervailing actions in making U.S. killing sticks less available. We actually make them more available through straw go-betweens without legal consequences and privately manufactured, State Department-blessed purchases by the military – yet another corrupt Mexican institution.

After leaving 50,000 drug deaths in his wake in the last six years, President Felipe Calderon will be replaced by a telegenic lightweight, Enrique Pena Nieto. Sort of a Clint Eastwood as mayor type, though “make my day” had the infinitely easier task, presiding over 5,000 wealthy, settled and largely bitchless Carmel-by-the-Sea, residents greatly pacified by the world-class surfing, scenery and eye-popping net worths. For Nieto, it will be 115,000,000 mostly poor Mestizos and Amerindians, mostly terrified by the specter of being shot dead 24/7.

Nieto’s election also represents the changing of the guard back to the Institutional Revolutionary Party. The PRI held political sway over Mexico for 71 years before being tossed out in 2000 by Calderon’s National Action Party (PAN). The political dynamics of these two parties and a couple of others with a bit of influence is too complicated to delve into outside an international law graduate class, so let’s just say there will be endless behind-the-scenes maneuvering, accommodations and vengeance and leave it at that.

For the U.S. the equivocation of largely turning a blind eye to the collapse of a neighbor continues to cost this country. We now build costly fences, pass draconian laws that not even the right-wing courts can countenance and talk of ‘self-deportation’. The National Rifle Association controls U.S./Mexican gun policy and the only real relationship we have with our neighbor is the greedy NAFTA fallout that has been wonderful for the biggest of the big boys and extraordinarily destructive for the average blue collar resident of Mexico. Calderon also did his part in going on a privatizing orgy that created an entirely new class of ‘crony-billionaires’.

As a result, right-wing economist and statisticians can present a sparkling list of GDP, employment and yearly earnings numbers that paint a totally misleading picture of what is really going on in Mexico. Yes, the numbers are near the top, but what isn’t publicized is that the overall poverty rate is 44% and that the money disparity between the extremely rich and the extremely poor is one of the most dramatic in the world. That may be the most obvious coincident between the U.S. and its southern neighbor.

The American history with Mexico is not altogether idyllic. Given our propensity for violence as a people, we, of course, grabbed off a nice chunk of land that didn’t belong to us through war. American settlers of the territory at that time feared their Mexican overseers might actually want to free the slaves. The government of Mexico also imposed taxes to pay for services. Of course bellicose Americans wanted to kill the bastards. So why not a Mexican-American war? Between the years of 1846-1848, we managed to grab off all or most of 10 state territories, taking care of 25,000 Mexican combatants in the process. The U.S. lost a fair number as well, about 13,000, but mostly to disease. Roughly 1,700 died in combat. The American citizenry considered the war to be highly ‘patriotic’.

That’s why a second armed civil war should come as no surprise if and when it happens. Some of the militia nutcases are already threatening such an action after the Supreme Court Health Care Decision didn’t go their way. Early tea party signs and slogans were also very threatening, depicting guns at every opportunity with their bearers actually brandishing firearms in public at tea party outdoor meetings. That only came to a halt when Dick Armey instructed his followers to cool it.

Here’a what Nieto apparently intends to do as the New President of Mexico. Nieto is a lawyer and former governor of the state (not country) of Mexico. He’s described as a Free Market Libertarian. Holy shit, another one! He’s got the sympathy vote with the tragedy of a first wife unexpectedly dropping dead of an epileptic seizure in 2007 while he was governor. A year later he hooked up with a soap opera actress who is now his second wife.

It didn’t hurt his campaign that she was a star on Televisa, the most powerful entertainment and news network in Mexico and a reliable Nieto supporter. TV Azteca has reportedly joined in a pro-Nieto alliance with Televisa. Those two networks cover 95% of Mexico’s viewership. Perhaps a more interesting percentage is the 88% of ladies responding to a poll by a dating agency who said they would ‘cheat on their husbands’ with Nieto. What does that say about Catholic Mexico? Same thing as religious hypocrisy the world over, that’s what.

Anyway, he has pledged to cut the Mexico’s murder rate in half. He’s also going to create an anti-corruption commission and make the courts and police forces more ‘professional’ (read less corrupt). He claims to be committed to democracy and modernization. Right now, Mexico’s drug problem and its attendant murders are beyond repair, Nieto’s or anybody else’s. That’s because the U.S. provides the bad guys with all the arms and customers they need to continue their multi-billion dollar enterprise. And who gets a share of all those billions? Three guesses.

I expect no major changes other than a sudden interest by Entertainment Tonight, E and TMZ in Mexico’s new President and First Lady. Policy-wise, it appears that Nieto is a younger version of Mitt Romney.

Holy shit!

Bill Maher Sends Insane Racist Allen West Back to Crazy Town

Jun 30 2012 Published by under Featured News

Bill Maher responded to Allen West’s bogus claim that he called him an ape, by laying a dose of reality on the commie hunting, misogynistic, race baiting congressman.

Here is the video:

Maher said,

By the way I ignore a lot of the attacks I get from the Republican Party. I mean, I’m on Fox News every week, but Allen West, Allen West who is a congressman from Florida, nice looking man, total nut. I have to address this because he has a fundraising letter that is raising money on my name, which I think is very unfair. I wrote a blog where he says I linked his name with being an ape. No, I wrote a blog that contained the words ape and Allen West. By the way, the blog also had the word disco in it. I’m not linking Allen West with being in the Bee Gees.

This is the blog. At the beginning, yes, I call the Republican Party the Rise of the Party of the Apes. It’s a joke, a movie reference. Later on in the article, I mention certain Republicans. I mention Michele Bachmann. I mention Richard Lugar. I mention the guy Richard Lugar lost to, Richard Mourdock then way down I mention Allen West. Somehow this gets to be I’m calling Allen West an ape, and it’s racist. And by the way, it’s so comical, not just this, but the idea that the Republican Party of all people. The number one thing on their agenda is rooting out racism, wherever it is.

Allen West’s fundraising letter paints Bill Maher as the devil incarnate. The letter accuses Maher of being responsible for every bad thing outside of the Holocaust and the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby.

Before Rep. West begged for dollars, his letter began with, “This week, Obama’s million-dollar Super PAC donor and “comedian” Bill Maher leveled racial smears against Allen West and the “Party of the Apes.” Maher went on to say that when fellow Republican representatives greet Allen in Washington, they probably say, “‘Word, Allen. Word.’ Because that’s how they think black people talk.” …Of course, this isn’t the first time Bill Maher has made racist and sexist remarks. He has a history of offensive, misogynistic attacks on women as well.”

What the West letter left out was that Maher made his Planet of the Apes joke at the end of paragraph three, and West isn’t mentioned until paragraph eight. This little fact didn’t deter West from Maher was singling him out because he was black, “Like much of the media that protects him, Maher is rich, white, privileged, and powerful and therefore can say anything he pleases about a black man. You know, as long as it’s one of “those” black men — the kind that doesn’t behave the way the rich, white, powerful and privileged think he should.”

Rep. West knows his audience well. Notice how he tries to he tries to absolve Republicans of their racism by inventing a racist remark and attributing it to Bill Maher. If Allen West was so central to the blog post why was he mentioned after three other white Republicans?

Maher didn’t mention Allen West because he is black. He wrote about him because he is crazy.

One of Allen West’s first moves when he got to Congress was to propose legislation that would have eliminated comprehensive private insurance for women. Allen West has also made jokes about the “Letting Women Die Act.” One of Rep. West favorite hobbies also happens to be accusing African-Americans of racism.

The truth is that the only person playing the race card here, and that’s Rep. Allen West. Bill Maher not only defended himself, but also called out West for being the giant flaming hypocrite that he is. West has carved out a nice little niche for himself in the right wing world by being happy to parrot and attach himself to their racism.

Maher perfectly dissected the anatomy of a right wing attack. Take two sets of words that appear in an article or a statement, put them together, and spread a false conclusion. Even better, the Real Time host packed up Allen West’s ball of projection laced with insanity, and bought it a one way ticket back to Crazy Town.

ObamaCare Gives $1.1 Billion in Cash Back to the American People

Jun 30 2012 Published by under Featured News

Hidden behind the right’s propaganda about a massive tax hike, President Obama’s healthcare law is forcing health insurance companies to issue a refund worth $1.1 billion dollars to Americans and business starting August 1st, 2012.

This “massive tax hike” the the GOP talks about, is actually smaller than Reagan’s tax hike of 1982. But really? Those are facts, so the GOP leaders don’t care about that.

The reason for this rebate is because in the Affordable Care Act, it mandates a medical loss ratio of 80%- 20%.

As Reuters is reporting,

“The rebates stem from a provision of the healthcare law that requires insurers to spend at least 80 percent of premiums on medical care or quality improvements, rather than advertising and administrative costs, salaries or bonuses. Insurers that devote less to actual healthcare services must pay customers the difference.

About 4.1 million people who are covered by individual insurance plans would receive a direct rebate, which HHS said would average $152 per family.

But the remaining 8.7 million beneficiaries are covered through the small and large employer markets and would receive only a portion of the rebate value depending on their share of premium costs. Officials said employers may choose to pass along the value of the rebate due their employees in forms other than cash, such as lower premiums or added benefits.”

The Republicans are threatening to take this away from you. Imagine what you could do with $1.1 billion for the economy.

ObamaCare is far from perfect, but it is a step in the correct direction. I personally do not care for the mandate, but I will deal with the mandate because it is accompanied by all the other things in the bill, from the provision like the one above, to closing the doughnut hole and covering our elderly citizens’ preventative care at no cost.

Pathetic Sarah Palin is Reduced to Tossing Playground Insults at Nancy Pelosi

Jun 30 2012 Published by under Featured News

Can’t you just feel the joy it must give Ms Palin to reach into the bag where she keeps all of the bitter hurts she’s been nursing for years and pulls one out, willy nilly, to attach to the nearest Democrat?

After Sarah Palin called Nancy Pelosi a “dingbat” on Fox last night, the Internets were ablaze with indignation and gloating — her fans love it when she crazily swings her bitter axe. But what most missed is that Sarah Palin’s biggest weakness isn’t her lack of mental acuity; it’s the Nixonian way she nurses a grudge until it’s a big old festering wound of resentment that causes her to say something completely silly like… calling Pelosi a dingbat. This is the same impulse that led her to her own destruction with Blood Libel.

Last night, Sarah Palin called Nancy Pelosi a “dingbat” on Sean Hannity’s nightly KoolAid imbuement. Right? I mean, yes! Nancy Pelosi is just so dingy! It’s like she quit her job after just a few years, or as if she couldn’t get through college without multiple efforts. Wow, great shot, Ms Palin.

Listen to Saint Sarah of the I-can-shoot-you-but-you-better-not-shoot-back-or-I’ll-cry-sexism here via Media Matters:

Hannity: Politically speaking, how should Congress deal with this and how should the Romney Campaign deal with this, if you were to give advice??

Palin: Well first off, Nancy Pelosi is a dingbat and she is the perfect spokesperson for this whole agenda of the far left, I mean the Democrat Party, I know a lotta Democrats who are absolutely embarrassed and disgusted with her and what Harry Reid’s leadership has provided the Democrat Party, and uh, they wanna bail out of the Democrat Party, because of, ah, specifically, th- the things that she says, the things that she does, what it is that she represents, but she’s a perfect spokesperson for, um, President Obama’s Democrat Party.

There wasn’t one specific thing in that can of crazy except for ‘dingbat’ and that’s your clue that Sarah Palin had her dense arrow of projection at the ready. After all, she wasn’t even asked about Pelosi.

Ms Palin finally got to call a Democratic woman a “dingbat”! Because, you know, it hurt so much when it was said about her. When it was said about her after she couldn’t tell us what she read to be informed and announced that she couldn’t wait to be in charge of policy as Vice President, it was just so mean. It burned.

Then, the evil liberals kept her out of her rightful place in the White House, so Ms Palin spent the next several years ginning up violence against any Democrat. She put crosshairs over Gabby Giffords’ office and then when Gabby was shot, Ms Palin felt super duper sorry for herself when people said that maybe she could have shown better judgment.

It’s hard to be a martyr all of the time, but if ever Sarah Palin excelled at anything, it’s Martyrdom!

In case you’re thinking this is a new low for Ms Palin, who claims the mantle of feminist while calling another woman a “dingbat”, remember that she once called Hillary Clinton a “whiner”.

You know how conservatives are always nattering on about how mean evil liberal elites are to call Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, and Jan Brewer idiots? Yes, well, it turns out that “conservative feminists” (aka; mamma grizzlies) like Sarah Palin have their own fault-proof vocabulary, where they get to insult any and all but are immune to return fire ‘cuz of Jesus.

As you can see from the Palin defender(s) on Media Matters, they are outraged that “Dems” have nothing better to say about Palin than pointing out her sheer stupidity. See, the rules are that Ms Palin gets to call Nancy Pelosi a dingbat, put crosshairs on Gabby Giffords’ district, and call Hillary Clinton a “whiner” but no one is allowed to say anything about Sarah Palin or else she is being crucified.

If you followed that, you totally get the modern day conservative plan. They do and say outrageous things that actually cause harm to others sometimes, but they do this like an ornery child who can only feel good when they’re getting attention for being bad. Because the goodies come when someone finally calls Palin on her bad behavior.

Now she gets to play the victim, and there’s nothing Ms Palin likes more than to play the victim. She keeps a spilling bag of resentments at her feet at all times and lives for moments like this, when she can throw one of her resentments at another person with the hope of wounding them as she has been wounded.

Bonus — Even as she hurls her invective, she already believes herself to be the martyr.

So, yes, Nancy Pelosi is a dingbat and Obama is evil.

And while it wouldn’t surprise me if Palin did know a lot of Democrats who can’t stand Nancy Pelosi and/or Harry Reid, it would surprise me very much if they were talking to her. One of the reasons Ms Palin quit her job was that she was unable to accomplish anything when she returned from her national tour as the “hottest governor”. Why? Well, see, the dirty little secret is that the Alaskan Republicans were never much for Palin’s sometimes socialist agenda (literally). Her allies as governor were Democrats… Until she ran as a conservative attack dog as John McCain’s VP.

So, no, I don’t imagine the Democratic Party in Alaska has much to say to Ms. Palin these days.

At any rate, only someone like Ms Palin, about whom “dingbat” has been said often, would think that being called a dingbat would hurt. Unlike Ms Palin, Nancy Pelosi is not secretly afraid that she is, indeed, a dingbat.

Ms Palin sounds like a child telling us what hurt her the most. Ms. Palin is still trying to revenge her bitter hurts and assuage her feelings of inadequacy. She was rejected first by the national 2008 voters and then rejected by her own constituents at home as her approval ratings plummeted upon her return.

Sarah Palin did Nancy Pelosi no damage by calling her a dingbat, because nicknames like that only stick when they ring a bell with the public. Pelosi may be a lot of things, but dumb she isn’t. It wasn’t Pelosi who was nationally shamed by getting Paul Revere’s story wrong.

Ms Palin’s scattershot attempt to wound Nancy Pelosi is a complete failure, and it tells us much more about Ms. Palin than it does Pelosi. Ms Palin’s shot will miss every time because she mistakenly assumes from her dense inability to imagine a world outside of her own head that everyone shares her night tremors about being called a dingbat.

Ms Palin saw the ACA being upheld as her chance to finally stick the dingbat knife into a woman who has done what Palin couldn’t; Nancy Pelosi is a successful politician who really understands policy and led her House into historically passing the Affordable Care Act.

Ouch.

A New Fundamentalist Term for Gays and Lesbians: Aberrosexuals

Jun 30 2012 Published by under Featured News, Issues

Aberrosexuals: those who engage in biologically aberrant sexual behavior.

-       Judy Meissner

Aberrochristians: those who engage in aberrant religious behavior.

-       Hrafnkell Haraldsson

It is time to start using the term aberrochristian, folks. Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH), has fallen in love with Judy Meissner’s term aberrosexualist, which he says isis certainly more accurate than ‘gay’ and more comprehensive than homosexual.” If that is true, aberrochristian is far more accurate when referring to bigots like LaBarbera than the term Christian.

LaBarbera is hung up on “aberrant and immoral behavioral choices” but this is only because of his own aberrant religious choices. Look at what this guy believes. He thinks equal rights is an “activist agenda”. And if you can find a single spot in the New Testament where Jesus obsesses over gay sex, please let me know. Even the Old Testament, which hurls fire and brimstone at almost everyone, barely mentions it and when it does talk about man-love it waxes poetically homoerotic.

I suspect Jesus would say this: “Why are you wasting your time on this with the end of the age at hand?” right before launching into the whole log in your own eye and casting the first stone spiel. Jesus could get worked up about things. I mean, he could throw things around. I suspect he would be worked up now: not at gays but at LaBarbera and Meissner.

Meissner’s target of attack is Suze Orman, the Emmy Award winning television host USA Today calls ”a force in the world of personal finance” and a “one-woman financial advice powerhouse” but who Meissner the aberrochristianist calls an aberrosexualist. Meissner wants Orman, who came out to the New York Times Magazine in 2007,  to “get real”, saying “Suze Orman, you are too smart to declare with a completely straight face that you ‘are not treated equally’ because you cannot marry a person of your same sex.”

To which we could reasonably answer, “C’mon, Judy Meissner, you are too smart to declare with a completely straight face that Suze Orman is not treated equally because she cannot marry a person of the same sex.” Or maybe I give her too much credit because she actually asserts that “Inequality means not being permitted something another citizen is permitted under the same, equal terms and conditions.”

This is the kind of reasoning you might expect from somebody who almost passed the third grade but Meissner seems to genuinely embrace it:

Suze, you can marry anyone under the same, equal terms and conditions as every other American. no one in America is allowed to marry under different, unequal terms and conditions as you seek, incredibly, in the name of “equality.” What you are proposing, Suze, is not “marriage equality,” but marriage inequality!

Meissner is being playfully ignorant…I hope. Though Meissner begs Orman, “Do not attempt to insult our intelligence, or yours, for that matter,” it is clear whose intelligence is being gratuitously insulted: ours.

Meissner is free to marry the person she loves; Orman, significantly, is not. This false definition of equality is a sham and it’s not even convincing. It is merely another attempt to sell the claim of “special rights” when in fact it is heterosexuals like Meissner who are the ones enjoying special rights, rights they refuse to share with gays and lesbians.

Aberrosexualists (partisans, whether aberrosexual or not, of the extremist ideology pushing for the “normalization” of biologically aberrant sexual behavior) mock the very notion of equality by demanding “equal marriage rights” for themselves while conveniently refusing it to everyone else in a “loving and caring relationship.”

This would be hilarious if only it was funny. Homosexuality is not biologically aberrant sexual behavior since there is abundant evidence of it in nature, evidence Meissner willfully ignores. Nor are gays and lesbians demanding rights for themselves that would be denied others: Meissner, were marriage equality the law of the land, would also be free to marry somebody of the same sex, if she chose, as would Peter LaBarbera. It really is difficult to imagine Meissner can advertise her flawed thinking with a straight face. She has to be joking right?

No, sadly not. She chooses instead to assert the conservative fallback position: false equivalency.

What about those who want to so-call “marry” their blood relatives, minors, multiple partners, or even their lovable, adorable pets? That’s right, Suze! If you can leave your entire estate to your beautiful Labrador retriever, why shouldn’t you be able to marry him (or her?) as well? Shouldn’t “Marriage Equality” apply to these Americans as well?

Of course, marrying members of the same sex has nothing to do with marrying children or pets or with incest. Neither does Meissner’s belief system have anything to do with Christianity, let alone common sense or even reality itself. Meissner claims that “Aberrosexualist extremists pushing so-called ‘Marriage Equality’ need to come clean. They need to be consistent at the very least! They can’t advocate ‘Marriage Equality’ for a chosen few, while hypocritically denying it to those who may want to ’marry’ (so-called) multiple partners or their grandma so they can be covered by her insurance or inherit her great pension benefits. Otherwise, they must stop pretending to stand for ‘Marriage Equality’ at all!”

Talk about shrill. And absurd. Meissner would not last five minutes in a college philosophy class – or in any class demanding a modicum of rationality. The absurdity of her position is clear when you consider the fact that she and her concept of “traditional marriage” are also denying the right of people to marry children, animals and blood relatives. Why is it so outrageous that proponents of marriage equality would be denying these rights but it’s perfectly acceptable that proponents of “traditional marriage” to do so?

Yet again, with a presumably straight-face she concludes that “Americans in all 50 states already enjoy ‘Marriage Equality.'”

Regardless of their alleged sexual preference, everyone in America has the right to marry a member of the opposite sex on the same equal terms and equal conditions. That’s what true marriage equality is all about: an equality that equals reality.

“An equality that equals reality” – really? Meissner’s entire case is built up around a rejection of our shared reality. Meissner’s absurdist logic will no doubt appeal to those who feel rather than think, as we all know it is meant to do. So too will LaBarbera’s, who adds this hate-infested gem of aberrochristian thinking:

“Suze, stop pretending that all lifestyle choices are equal. Lesbianism is immoral, per thousands of years of human history. Thankfully, many women who once thought they were ‘lesbian’ — like many men who once called themselves “gay” — are now living healthier lives in accordance with the natural design of their bodies and the moral laws of their loving Creator. You can, too!”

LaBarbera and Meissner are not going to convince any educated person with her reasoning powers but she is not hoping to convert those with above room temperature IQs. She is appealing to the aberrochristian Republican base after all, which is not at all the same thing.

Republican ‘Patriots’ Terrorize America with Calls for Armed Insurrection

Jun 30 2012 Published by under Featured News

The sole reason humans progressed beyond cave dwelling was their ability to learn, reason, and communicate to form communities and eventually civilizations. Unless a person is born with a genetic brain defect or are developmentally retarded, they should have the capacity to think rationally and assess situations critically to make choices in their own best interests. Of course, there are circumstances where ignorance plays a role in making bad choices, but unless a person is stupid, there is really no reason to continue reaching conclusions with no basis in fact. There is a notable difference between ignorance and stupidity, but both can lead to unwise acts, and in combination, there are few outcomes that do not produce disastrous results for the person and anyone connected with them.

In their quest to transform the country into a corporatist theocracy, Republicans are using the ignorance and stupidity of a significant segment of the population to incite violent reactions to every policy proposed by President Obama. Americans got a glimpse of the stupidity in the teabagger movement during the healthcare reform debate two years ago, and despite the availability of information about the myriad benefits of the health law, it appears that, coupled with racism, that particular group is still stupid and becoming a hazard to the security of the entire population. In the 24 hours after the Supreme Court’s ruling that the Affordable Care Act is constitutional, the combination of ignorance, stupidity, and racism exposed the threat of a violent uprising against the government of the United States.

There are Americans openly discussing armed insurrection to overthrow the government based on the notion that the worst form of tyranny this country has ever witnessed is the Affordable Care Act’s constitutionality. A list of comments labeled “Hilarious Reactions to the High Court’s Ruling” on a liberal website are not remotely humorous, and only serve to inspire more hatred toward President Obama among stupid Americans who lack the ability to discern between a legally passed law upheld  by the High Court and tyranny against the citizens of the United States. A Michigan lawyer emailed numerous media outlets asking, “Is Armed Rebellion Now Justified? There are times government has to do things to get what it wants and holds a gun to your head. I’m saying we have to ask when do we turn that gun around and say no and resist.” A Breitbart activist claimed, “This is the greatest destruction of individual liberty since Dred Scott… the end of America as we know it. No exaggeration.” A conservative blogger Tweeted, “We don’t just need a new president. We need a revolution.” The Christian extremist Bryan Fischer said Chief Justice Roberts “is going down in history as the justice that shredded the Constitution and turned it into a worthless piece of parchment,” and the teabagger group Freedomworks said, “the power to tax is the power to destroy.” Another conservative blogger wrote that “someone got to Roberts and told him he has to vote this way or members of his family – kids, wife, parents, whoever – were going to be killed.”

Now, any semi-conscious American with a rudimentary understanding of the legislative process may find these assertions hilarious, but there are plenty of angry, racist, stupid, and extremely well-armed Americans who perceive the court’s ruling as a threat to themselves and their ignorant concept of American liberty. Their perception of tyranny is being co-opted by Republicans who use coded language and sometimes overt proclamations that the only solution to President Obama’s tyranny is a “2nd Amendment remedy” and armed rebellion. A Republican in the House of Representatives, Michele Bachmann, told residents of Minnesota that she wants them to be “armed and dangerous” if the federal government attempted to implement laws she felt were impinging on their freedoms, and the infamous 2nd Amendment remedy solution to a Democratically-controlled Congress originated with a candidate for the U.S. Senate from Nevada. However, there are less overt buzz-words and catch-phrases being used on a daily basis by Republicans that are instigating violence-tinged reactions across the country from seriously stupid and tragically ignorant Americans.

When Willard Romney says “Obamacare is the government takeover of health care and intrusion in our lives,” the implication to moronic Americans is tyranny in the same sense as “government overreach” into Christians’ lives. Romney claims President Obama is “undermining religious freedom” and it is as provocative to Christians as taking their precious guns and bibles away. During the lead up to the 2010 midterm elections, this author interview four leaders of the largest evangelical churches in a large California city for a newspaper article on religion in politics, and when the preachers were asked if their tactics were at all like Afghanistan’s Taliban, the spokesman leaned over, smiled and said, “no, we are better organized, better funded, and more heavily armed,” and that “we have a list with your name near the top with that Black tyrant in the Oval Office.” Is it sinking in yet that these racist Christian super-patriots are a danger to the security of every man, woman, and child in America? It should.

The persistent talking points by Republicans throughout President Obama’s term have been to incite opposition to his policies and his existence as President. Romney and the rest of Republican representatives in Congress know well that the ACA is good for the American people and that it will not increase the deficit, kill jobs, or create death panels, and yet they parrot those fallacies on a daily basis. Whether or not Republicans are deliberately inciting stupid Americans toward violence is unknown, but for those of us who are stalked, have death threats nailed to our front doors, or pick up the phone to hear graphic details of our family’s dismemberment and demise, it is their persistent references to tyranny, government intrusion, and religious persecution that are part and parcel of the impending violence toward liberals, gays, Jews, and the government.

What is most tragic is that if any of these so-called patriots or religious sycophants ever took the time to peruse the Affordable Care Act provisions, they would be hard-pressed to find anything they would not benefit from. Willard Romney understands this because his similar healthcare reform in Massachusetts is extremely popular and covers 98% of adults and 100% of the state’s children. His opposition and constant criticism of the Affordable Care Act is not because it kills jobs, increases the deficit, or intrudes on Americans’ personal freedoms, it is because he is pandering to the stupid teabaggers who hate anything the African American President promoted, and that a Black man is in the Oval Office fuels their rage  and drives them toward armed insurrection to “take back America.”

It is a travesty that the divisiveness raging across America for the past three years has its basis in racism, ignorance, and stupidity, because it is not health insurance reform, consumer protection from predatory banks, less government spending, lower taxes, or the jobs President Obama created. Republicans have seized on America’s racism and stupidity and parlayed them into a perpetual campaign of hate and vitriol to implement their Libertarian vision of America. America is being torn apart by Republicans and their hate-filled teabagger and evangelical bootlickers, and the real shame is that this country could be a truly exceptional nation for all the right reasons, and not because Republicans want to kill Muslims, Liberals, gays, and non-Christians. The proliferation of guns among evangelicals, teabaggers, and Mormons is no accident and there are specific reasons they stockpile assault rifles, machine guns, and a two-year supply of food and ammunition, and it is not for hunting rabbits and pheasants. The lot of the religious super patriots are on standby for a signal that the nation is ripe for armed insurrection and the Supreme Court just gave the “on your mark” warning by ruling that a brilliantly beneficial health insurance reform law is constitutional. Americans are going to need all the healthcare they can get when the shooting starts and one thing is certain, there will not be one Republican on the front line. They will be hiding out in corporate or church-provided bunkers to pick up the pieces and if any American thinks it is a joke, then they are as ignorant and as stupid as those who fire first.

Lifetime Buries Its Bristol Palin Bomb Out Back and Hopes We Don’t Notice

Jun 29 2012 Published by under Featured News

Lifetime has quietly announced that after getting a taste of how much America can’t stand the Palins, they are taking the first steps towards ridding themselves of Bristol Palin’s reality show bomb.

After a horrible debut where Bristol Palin’s much publicized reality show lost near 1.1 million viewers off of its Dance Moms lead in, Life’s a Tripp managed to lose an additional 140,000 viewers. On week one the Palins conned 726,000 Americans into watching their propaganda disguised as reality television, but that number sank to 586,000 for the first half hour of week two. Notice I said the first half hour, because at 10:30 PM, the show lost another 160,000 viewers and fell to 426,000. By the end of episode two the show was down 300,000 viewers from episode one.

Just how bad are the ratings? Consider that Dance Moms did 2.125 million viewers at 9 PM. Bristol Palin came on the air at 10 PM and over 75% of that audience changed the channel. Lifetime has obviously seen enough, but because they were dumb enough to a) Spend lots of money promoting a show starring America’s most despised family since the Mansons, and b) Give the Palin family a season commitment and a paycheck — they are stuck with this show.

Lifetime’s solution to the Bristol bomb that is wrecking their Tuesday nights is to get out of prime time. Effective immediately, Life’s A Tripp has been banished to 11 PM. If the show continues to hurt the network, look for either a quick burn off of episodes disguised as a marathon, or a move to an even more remote time slot.

There are numerous reasons why Bristol Palin’s reality show failed, but the biggest one is that the show is awful. I mean really, really awful. Like bad mockumentary awful. It may be most unwatchable 60 minutes on television. Somebody at Lifetime was fooled into thinking that Bristol Palin’s Dancing With The Stars appearance meant that she was popular. What they might not have known was that Palinbots rigged the vote for Bristol because they thought that it would help resurrect their Joan of Noah’s Ark, Sarah Palin, back from the political dead.

Lifetime got suckered, and like every other individual or organization that has either paid or voted for a Palin, they are now left holding the bag. It looks like the grifting gravy train may finally be coming to an end. Sarah PAC can’t raise money, Mama Grizzle has been reduced to giving speeches for free, and Bristol Palin got the boot off prime time after just two episodes.

Sarah and her crew need to realize that America has been trying to break up with her for almost four years. It is over. We don’t want to see you anymore. Here is your stuff back. Go live your life and please stop calling us, or we will get a restraining order.

Right Wing Values: Poisoning our Air to Fill Their Pockets

Jun 29 2012 Published by under Featured News

Poor and working class people are always the first to pay the price for ideology. Every day, as the abstractions of war are debated by policy wonks and high-priced desk-jockeys, we sit on the frontlines shooting and being shot at for their theories and their control of resources. Every day, as debt, deficits and the billionaire dog-whistle of austerity are chopped up and repackaged as so many numbers in a database somewhere, thousands of families get thrown out of their homes, millions of Americans lose years on their retirement and generation after generation of American falls prey to the student debt peonage that has risen to over a trillion dollars in America alone. Every day, as politicians use crooked studies from crooked think tanks to justify the poisoning of the planet, we sit on an environmental powder keg, the size of which the world has never seen before.

Right wing “values” are all about “profit values” –and nothing more. Whether poisoning our water, triggering a war or making us pay the receipt for their economic stupidity, when we talk about politics in America, we need to get beyond the abstract and into the reality of millions of lives and a world ruined by Right Wing ideology. These are the outcomes, every time, of Right Wing politics. All politics on the Right Wing tends towards tyranny on the top and suffering for the rest of the humans caught under that power-pyramid.

This past week, right-wing domination of our politics further reminded us that the mega-corporations know no safety-boundaries and no human decency in their eternal drive for profits. Whether it was in the wholesale buy-out of HR 4480 by the Dirty Energy Industry or the massive failure of the “Rio + 20” conference, the average human being, American or otherwise, was reminded of exactly where they stand relative to profit in Right Wing ideology. By examining some key similarities in both corporate efforts to dominate public decision-making, we can distill down to a true right-wing value: maximum profit at any and all non-financial expense.

While we’ve previously seen how the right wing conspires to deprive the poor and jobless for the sake of their billionaire sponsors, this week should remind us that the very environment and air all of humanity marinates and experiences itself in, is up for corporate sacrifice if there’s profit to be made. Cancer rates, poisoning of water tables, mass extinction of species, asthma rates, dead zones, disappearing glaciers? These are “externalities” to the corporate-powered right; costs that do not directly affect them and are thus removed entirely from their psychology and their accounting.

Since the Citizens United ruling, what was once a heavy influence of corporate fiat in politics has evolved into government as a publicly subsidized service for the benefit of big business. One glaring example is the blistering rate at which our current Right Wing-dominated Congress has voted to enrich Big Oil at the expense of the very air, water and earth we depend on. In fact, the political sellout (or corporate buyout) of our environment is literally happening at record rate. (via ThinkProgress)

The House of Representatives holds the title of the most anti-environment House in congressional history. Led by Republicans, the House has voted against the environment 247 times in the last 18 months, averaging one anti-environmental vote for every day the House has been in session.

What precisely is the corporate-colonized Congress prioritizing in its rapid-fire legalization of ecocide?

The House voted to enrich the oil and gas industry 109 times, a total 44 percent of its anti-environment votes. There were 38 votes to prevent clean energy deployment and 12 votes to expedite review of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Out of those 38 votes to prevent clean energy deployment, 13 were votes in the last few weeks alone. Far from “not picking winners and losers”, in the Right-Wing proposed Strategic Energy Production Act (SEPA), the GOP showed its hand by playing favorites with the corporations that bought their way into office.

Rather than balance out these [green energy] cuts with subsequent cuts to fossil fuels, the bill actually increases R&D spending on fossil fuel technologies by 60 percent. (via ThinkProgress)

Quite apart from right-wing propaganda about a supposed love of the “free market,” the key goal here is not some abstract concept of interchange and valuation–no, the goal is to enrich their sponsors, whether through the mirage of a free market or via a sort of corporate-Bolshevism for the 1%, wherein public coffers are leveraged for the profit of billionaires.

The financial sponsors of the political right wing, seeing such a return on investment, are perfectly fine with throwing a few million to some politicians and crooked think-tanks when trillions of profit are possibly up for grabs. What we view as a corruption of our government, Corporate America views as an investment into their business and the kind of world they want to see. The size of this investment is enormous. Just looking at H.R. 4480 (SEPA), one finds a distinct pattern between those who voted in favor of yet another massive give away to the Dirty Energy industry and those who were brave enough to vote against the sellout. According to ThinkProgress

The 248 pro-Big Oil votes received over four times more oil and gas contributionsover their careers. The 248 members — 229 Republicans and 19 Democrats — voted to pass the bill and enrich Big Oil. They received a total of $38.6 million in oil and gas campaign cash…The House is on track to collect a record amount of oil industry contributions this cycle, having already reached 2008 and 2010levels. This hike in Big Oil spending has been predominantly funneled to Republicans, who received 88 percent of the industry’s campaign dollars for the 2012 cycle. And these are direct donations only — it does not include Super PAC spending or other campaign assistance.Lobbying spending by both oil and coal reached $150 million and $18 million, respectively, in 2011…

And yet these millions of dollars pale in comparison to the trillions in profits extorted by dirty energy. In fact, around the world, the fossil fuels industries receive over a trillion dollars in government subsidies every year. So when Rio+20 took place last week down in Brazil, it was a similarly corporatized United Nations backdrop that environmental activists from around the world faced up against. To compact some of the failures of Rio+20, one can begin by examining the 50 page document, “The Future we Want,” produced by the conference. As the Telegraph (UK) explains

Any hope that today’s summit would do much about any of this died long ago. Indeed, it did not even set out to produce any new binding agreements: its ambition only extending to producing an exhortatory, aspirational document…The verbs tell the story. The word “encourage” appears 50 times, the phrase “we will” only five; “support” is used 99 times, “must” just three.

Why did a world conference addressing the need to save a polluted, poisoned and infected planet turn out such empty, non-binding verbiage? How could a meeting of the world’s most powerful bureaucrats turn out so few resolutions to step up to the single most pressing challenge of humanity’s existence? How do we drop the ball like that? As it turns out, the story of the Rio+20 conference isn’t politicians failing to defend their national communinties, but rather its a story of politicians successfully defending the commercial interests of their corporate sponsors. As explained at STWR

Many NGOs observed the growing influence of major corporations and business lobby groups within the United Nations – one of the biggest differences between the first Rio Summit in 1992 and the latest gathering twenty years later, which is reinforcing policies that support the commercial interests of companies and preventing critical measures that serve the public good.

Much like America’s legislative and regulatory bodies have been colonized by the priorities of the 1%, so too has the international community’s legislative and regulatory bodies been colonized. Much like a colony serves the empire that financed it, so do our politicians serve the corporations that finance them. It’s a pattern that holds the world over. Some observers, like George Monbiot of the Guardian, have noted corporate colonization’s clear impact and limitations on how we deal with any public problem.

These summits have failed for the same reason that the banks have failed. Political systems that were supposed to represent everyone now return governments of millionaires, financed by and acting on behalf of billionaires. The past 20 years have been a billionaires’ banquet. At the behest of corporations and the ultra-rich, governments have removed the constraining decencies – the laws and regulations – which prevent one person from destroying another. To expect governments funded and appointed by this class to protect the biosphere and defend the poor is like expecting a lion to live on gazpacho. You have only to see the way the United States has savaged the Earth summit’s draft declaration to grasp the scale of this problem. The word “equitable”, the US insists, must be cleansed from the text.

Perhaps the only thing less surprising then a corporate-dominated environmental conference supporting a corporate-dominated environment, is that our American politicians (deeper in bed with Dirty Industry than anyone outside the Middle East)  were heading the pack to de-fang any possible binding agreement or regulation.

Out of the thousands of environmental activists who flooded to Brazil to engage in what they believed was a good-faith negotiation to improve the fate of the problem, most of them were woefully disappointed and many even walked out in protest. But instead of just walking out and giving up on any hope of global solidarity towards a greener, healthier planet, the environmental activists engaged with who they thought actually cared about making a visible and lasting improvement to the eco-crisis: each other. They walked out of the doors of Rio+20 and into the doors of Peoples Summit for Social and Environmental Justice. This would become the counter-summit to Rio+20. The PSSEJ

“was held over a 10 day period to propose real solutions to the serious problems that humanity is facing. This was the forum where the true meaning of ‘sustainable development’ was discussed and understood, with obvious implications for our current way of life and patterns of production and consumption. Clearly, long-term sustainability requires an acceptance that infinite growth is impossible on a finite planet. And living conditions can never be equalised around the world unless the over-consuming nations – the 20 percent of the world population that consumes 80 percent of the Earth’s resources – learn to live more simply and embrace the principle of sharing.” via STWR

Faced by a system corrupted beyond the use of regular folks, activists from around the world decided to build a democratic alternative for themselves and each other around which to think up and project solutions.

From both the corporate colonization of the American government to the corporate colonization of international governance, we should be able to draw out the importance and power of our shared will and tax pool in the institutionalized form of government. The corporations already have. Our governments, on the local, federal and international levels, have fallen under the heavy influence of corporate fiat. In a democracy, a plutocracy maintains itself by institutionalizing it’s privileges into the structures of that democracy, whether it’s legalizing the buying of elections or freeing corporations of their tax responsibilities. This corporate plutocracy can clearly even affect our abilities to deal with the international eco-crisis that quite seriously threatens the course of modern civilization.

So what then? The problem has two inter-connected factors. On the one hand, whether in Brazil, Greece, Canada or the United States, the democratic process is now dominated by powerful corporations and their insatiable drive for profit. We have to wring that process free of the corporate grip. Unfortunately we cannot yet do this by voting them out or straight up majority street protest because of the second factor — namely, our lack of a critical mass, either nationally or internationally, that will not only impose its majority priorities onto ecological policies but also help generate the culture, values and leadership we need to sustain the struggle past the first few generations and the first immediate struggles.

Right Wing values coalesce inexorably around the centralization of power and in a country as driven by money as ours, that power-centralization tends towards a plutocracy of moneyed interests. This ideology has a very real impact on the very way we live and breathe.

Much like thousands of activists were over-powered in the political mechanisms of Rio+20, so to are we Americans side-lined by corporate and billionaire privilege by the very government whose bills we pay and whose legitimacy rests on our approval. Perhaps the center and left are convinced of the impending ecological crisis corporate America would like us to ignore. Unfortunately, that’s not enough. In fact, in a “democracy” so culturally and politically dominated by the voices of corporations, it’s going to take far more than even a simple majority to replace corporate interests in our politics with human interests.

Anti-environmentalism is if not a psychosis then certainly a type of sociopathic behavior. Cultivating the public will to destroy, poison and belittle the lives of our fellow human beings is a craven and malicious act, no matter the returns. The debate over the poisoning of the planet should be an “all-win” for us lefties. There is no honor, no morality, no intelligence and no humanity in destroying an environmental community that has sustained trillions of life-forms before us. Few acts of arrogance or moral nihilism can even begin to compare to the willful destruction of the planet. Billions of lives are on the line and we need to impact not just politics, but the majority of main-stream consciousness with a deep understanding of how we’re poisoning the world, and how we can starting choosing alternative routes to the future. Much like our activist sisters and brothers found out at Rio, we already have a democratic political apparatus far more responsive than the ones the corporations have purchased for themselves — we have each other.

Scott Walker Gets Smacked Down by the Constitution and Told to Implement Obamacare

Jun 29 2012 Published by under Featured News

Scott Walker got schooled today by the Wisconsin Republican Attorney General. AG Van Hollen told Governor Walker that actually, Governor Walker has to comply with federal law and implement Obamacares. Under the Affordable Care Act, states must set up a health insurance exchange program by Jan. 1, 2014, and will receive grants from the federal government to implement it.

Two days ago I told you how Scott Walker had announced he was going to violate federal law by not implementing the Affordable Care Act even if the Supreme Court upheld it. His plan was to just wait until the “next president” repealed it.

After they upheld it, the cheese state cowboy who acts like Bush but is really more Nixon sans the smarts doubled down, flaunting his lawless defiance of the law:

Walker issued a statement Thursday morning in reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court’s upholding of ACA in which he doubled down on his promise not to implement ObamaCares and called for repealing the federal health care law. Walker said the state will not implement the law until after the November elections.

Because, you know, laws are for Democrats.

It turns out that even the Republican Wisconsin AG Van Hollen agrees that yes, Walker has to comply with federal law. You might recall Van Hollen, he was the lawyer for Wisconsin in the lawsuit filed against ObamaCares, so it’s not as if he’s pro-ACA. In 2008, Van Hollen sued the Wisconsin state elections agency to force the Government Accountability Board to check voter registrations for accuracy (his suit was thrown out for lack of standing). But even Van Hollen’s partisan prejudice can’t stop him from acknowledging that there are some laws even Republicans must follow.

After the SCOTUS ruling yesterday, Van Hollen said that Walker is obligated to follow the law according to its deadlines. That gives Walker just a few months to throw together something in time for the November deadline (insert laughter here).

Walker is now pretending there are “multiple deadlines” and that this somehow means he doesn’t have to follow them. Since Walker’s signature legislation turned out to cost the state 87 million dollars due to minutae that he failed to address, you can understand how Walker doesn’t get why there are a few deadlines. There is the first deadline of November 16 to submit plans for the exchanges, and then on Jan. 1, 2013 to show the Department of Health and Human Services that the exchanges will be operational the next year, and then the actual deadline for the exchanges of January 1, 2014. It’s called planning. These deadlines apply even to Scott Walker, who is a king only in his own state.

Walker isn’t alone. Bobby Jindal descended his Gone with the Wind staircase to announce, “We’re not going to start implementing Obamacare. We’re committed to working to elect Governor Romney to repeal Obamacare.”

The entire posse of Republican dress up-faux cowboy governors who are refusing to follow federal law may find themselves on the wrong side of federal law this November. But you can bet they’ll have their hands out for the Medicaid money. In a perfect world, we could round them up and impeach them for failing to do their duty and violating federal law, but we all know that conservatives have become the anarchists calling for armed revolution. Expecting them to follow the law is a set up for disappointment.

In reality, what will happen is that the federal government will step in to do the red state governors’ jobs for them.

The New York Times addressed this today, “If they do not, the secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, “shall establish and operate” the exchanges for the states, according to the statute, a prospect that Republican governors like Rick Scott of Florida, Rick Perry of Texas and Scott Walker of Wisconsin would presumably find anathema.”

The look on Scott Walker’s face when Kathleen Sebelius steps over his tough boy mask and gets to work actually helping his constituents while he whines about liberal enemies and Socialism will be priceless.

Scott Walker got the Constitution thrown in his face today by a Republican AG. Governor Walker must set up the federally mandated health care exchange in Wisconsin or Sebelius will do it for him.
