On The Daily Show, Jon Stewart schooled Herman Cain on the Democratic machine, and explained to Cain why the GOP is responsible for his sexual harassment problems.
Here is the video from The Daily Show:
After breaking down Herman Cain’s press conference Jon Stewart moved on to Cain’s claim that the “Democrat machine” is trying to bring him down, “Ah, the Democrat machine, I believe I’ve seen one of those. I don’t know if you know anything about it. From what I understand it costs billions of dollars, runs on solar power, and turns hope into disappointment.”
Stewart also explained why Democrats aren’t out to get Cain, “Mr. Cain nothing personal, but I really don’t think the Democrats are trying to sabotage your campaign, because a). we all know Democrats don’t think sexual misconduct disqualifies you from holding the presidency, and b). they’ve seen you debate.” The Daily Show host played a clip of Herman Cain during his Lincoln/Douglas style debate with Gingrich having a Rick Perry moment and not knowing what a defined benefit plan is.
Jon Stewart concluded by explaining to Herman Cain why he really should be blaming the Republican Party for his troubles, “Listen, Herman Cain if you want to blame a political party for having to address these sexual harassment claims, blame the Republicans, because you’re only getting this level of scrutiny because you’re the frontrunner, and you’re only the frontrunner because you’re up against the Keystone Conservatives. The only people who haven’t led this field so far are the so called reasonable one, and the one whose name is synonymous with ass juice. I’ll let you figure out which is which.”
The current GOP field is such a disgrace that a man who economic platform sounds like a Subway commercial has risen to the top of the polls. Their other alternative is a candidate who in 2008 couldn’t beat a disorganized, bankrupt, and way past his sell by date John McCain. Most Republican voters know how weak Mitt Romney is, which is why they are latching on to anyone who isn’t Mitt Romney. They are willing to happily go into denial about the political impact of the sexual harassment allegations against Herman Cain as long it means that there is a chance that they won’t have to hold their nose and run Romney.
Herman Cain’s campaign is based on a gimmick, but in one of the weakest fields for a major party’s presidential nomination ever. That gimmick and a little personality has been enough to vault Cain to the top. If Republicans have a Herman Cain problem, it is because they have a field of candidates that is so weak that a pizza man is capable of leading it. If Republicans had a solid field of candidates, Herman Cain would be fourth or fifth instead of first.
Cain’s claims of a Democratic machine are nothing more than an empty pander to Republican paranoia. If there was a Democratic machine, don’t you think they would have been able to win Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004? The problem with the Democratic Party is that there is no cohesiveness or machine. Democrats are only successful when they are unified, and they are only unified when they have strong leadership at the top.
Democrats will be dancing in the streets if the Republican Party nominates Herman Cain.
Herman Cain has tried to blame his accusers, the media, and the Democratic Party, but where the blame really rests is with the behavior of Herman Cain and those in his political party who continue to support him.
