It isn’t a coincidence that the day after the Herman Cain sexual assault scandal broke, Donald Trump tried to create another scandal by accusing Jon Stewart of racism.
Here is the video of Trump:
Trump said, “How come Jon Stewart gets away with a very very racist rant against Herman Cain? Nobody else could pull that off. Where is Rev. Jackson? Where is Rev. Sharpton? Where are all the critics that if someone else did it, it would be a disaster? He horribly stated in his imitation, well have you kidnapped a baby other than the Lindbergh baby? Now, if anybody watches this, they will say wow, that’s amazing….It’s not what he said but the way he said it. The tone of his voice, the inflection. Unbelievable! Anybody else, deep deep trouble. Imus, got taken off the air. Other people get taken off the air, and when he says it, people smile, and they sort of say, wow, I can’t believe he gets away with it…Where’s sleepy eyed Chuck Todd? When somebody else says something even a little bit non-politically correct they go after him, but when Jon Stewart does a horrible horrible thing to the African-American community, they leave him alone. I like Jon Stewart. I hope they don’t take him off the air, but frankly, for this, they probably should at least for a while. It’s terrible. It’s insulting to the African-American community, and I’ll tell you what. He should apologize.”
Back here on planet Earth, here is the Daily Show segment that Trump was referring to:
Where in the world would Donald Trump get the idea that Jon Stewart is a racist? Back in June, Chris Wallace accused Jon Stewart of being a racist on Fox News Sunday, “After playing clip of Jon Stewart doing his Herman Cain impression, Chris Wallace asked if he was planning a remake of Amos and Andy, and Stewart called out his bias, “Why don’t you show, do you show me doing all the voices for all the other people that we do? Do you want to see my New York voice? My Chinese guy voice? Are you suggesting you and I are the same? Are you suggesting? What am I at my highest aspiration, and what you at your highest aspiration?”
Do you think it is a coincidence that the day after Herman Cain’s sexual harassment story breaks; Donald Trump is out there using Jon Stewart to advance the right wing talking point that Cain is being discriminated against by racists? What makes this attempt by the right at creating a diversion away from Cain’s troubles especially absurd is that Donald Trump became the darling of right wing circles by being the biggest Obama birther around.
Donald Trump, the pretend presidential candidate, who got himself a whole bunch of media attention for using racist attacks against the President of the United States, is now claiming that Jon Stewart is a racist. This is the same Donald Trump, who while pretending to run for president, blamed “the blacks” for the election of Barack Obama.
This whole thing is a ploy to create a media circus to get attention off Herman Cain. Republicans know that if Cain crashes and burns, they are stuck with Mitt Romney, which likely means four more years of Obama.
What Jon Stewart did on The Daily Show was point out the holes in Herman Cain’s story. For this reason, they revived the old smear that Jon Stewart is a racist.
Trump’s rant also proved something else. There are some really stupid people in the Republican Party who actually seem to believe that if they nominate Cain, black voters will support him. This is the same foolish logic that they tried to use in 2008 when they put Palin on the ticket, because they thought female Clinton voters would support another woman, any woman.
Polling has already revealed that Obama would trounce Cain among African-American voters. If anyone really wants to know who put the story out there about Cain’s sexual harassment past, they should look to the right, and his fellow GOP candidates, not the left. Democrats would never sink Cain. They would love nothing more than to see the Republican Party nominate Herman Cain.
Don’t fall for the distraction, the real story here is Herman Cain, not the right’s imaginary Jon Stewart racism.
