Troy Davis was denied a stay tonight, and put to death by the State of Georgia at 11:08 PM Eastern Time, while outside officers with tear gas faced over 500 supporters who gathered peacefully to pray and hold a vigil. The supporters chanted “Not in our name” and “We are all Troy Davis”.
Troy Davis declared his innocence moments before he was executed.
Tonight, in memory of Troy Davis, we offer you Liz Lands singing the song of the Civil Rights Movement, “We Shall Overcome.”
Our thoughts also go out to slain officer Mark MacPahil’s family and friends.
