Federal Watchdog Agency Eyes Layoffs Due To Budget Cuts

Earlier this morning I wrote about the Republicans’ inability to see the forest through the trees. That cutting welfare budgets does not get rid of fraud at all. Actually it is the fact that agency cut backs increase fraud due to lack of investigators on the ground checking on the recipients.

Well it seems that Republican cut backs at the federal level are going to be hitting the Government Accountability Office also. The GAO is the non partisan federal watchdog group. GAO investigates how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars. The head of GAO, the Comptroller General of the United States, is appointed to a 15-year term by the President from a slate of candidates Congress proposes. This agency was hit by a 6.4% reduction in the budget, and this year they are looking at a 7.6% reduction in their budget.

For a party that promotes itself as being the fiscal watchdogs, the Republicans are literally taking the cops off the street. They are penny wise and dollar foolish as the old saying goes.

This will be a total of a 14% cut in their budget since the Republicans took control of the house in 2010. So when they complain about fraud and abuse of tax dollars, you can now point to the Republicans as the literal cause because they eliminated the cops that watch over our tax dollars. Austerity will cause the crisis in America.
