Speaker Boehner is being completely dishonest when he made his statement on the month of August’s job numbers. He said,
“Private-sector job growth continues to be undermined by the triple threat of higher taxes, more failed ‘stimulus’ spending, and excessive federal regulations. Together, these Washington policies have created a fog of uncertainty that’s left small businesses unable to hire and American families worried about the future.
“President Obama is slated to address Congress next week and I look forward to hearing his ideas to bolster private-sector job creation. The American people are still asking, ‘where are the jobs?’ Republicans are listening and focusing on removing barriers to job growth, whether it’s eliminating unnecessary regulations that drive up prices or stopping Washington from spending money it doesn’t have.
I’m hopeful the White House will take this opportunity to work with us to end the uncertainty facing families and small businesses, and create a better environment for long-term economic growth and private-sector job creation.”
This man, the leader of the Republican Party, didn’t read the BLS report or if he did he is not telling America the entire story.
Here are the facts via the Bureau Of Labor And Statistics PDF file on the real jobs numbers.
The private sector added 17,000 more jobs including a negative number of -45,000 in the tele-communications sector due to the CWA/IBEW strike against Verizon which knocked the total number down.
The only major sector that lost jobs was the government sector! It lost 17,000 employees. In one year, August of 2010 the public sector has lost over 300,000 jobs.
The sectors that saw the biggest increase in employment was healthcare and hospitals. That sector added 30,000 jobs in August. This brings me to the talking point of over regulation.
If what the republicans say is true, the healthcare industry should be shedding jobs due to “ObamaCares” right? In one year the healthcare industry added 610,000 jobs. I thought regulation would be killing this industry.
The other private sectors that added jobs were the professional and business services industry, that sector added 8,000 jobs, mining added 6,000 jobs.
So overbearing regulations and taxes caused the unemployment not to change?
John Boehner obviously didn’t get the memo that most of the job losses were in the public sector, and most of the job growth was in the private sector.
So if we are going to head into another recession, it will be due to John Boehner and the GOP who will not allow towns, cities and states to hire teachers, firefighters and others. It’s the Republican Party that has attacked public sector jobs throughout the nation, especially under the tutelage of Republican governors in states like Wisconsin, Florida, Ohio, Michigan, and more. Austerity has been a failure throughout the world and the GOP is in lock step behind the rest of them, to push us off the cliff.
