Politicians are masters of the art of rhetoric, but they are often better served if they speak bluntly and honestly. Republicans are master liars and it has become so normal for them, it is difficult to know if they actually believe their own lies or are just parroting the party line. Democrats are more diplomatic and appear timid for not speaking the truth in a way the average American can understand exactly what they mean. Apparently during the debt ceiling negotiations, at least one Democrat accused the teabaggers of being terrorists for holding the economy hostage to get the spending cuts they wanted and if it is true, it was apropos to the situation and entirely accurate based on Mitch McConnell’s admission of holding the debt limit hostage. The truth is, the teabaggers have been terrorizing America since their ascendance shortly after President Obama took office.
During the healthcare reform debates, the Koch brothers funded the racist teabaggers who were opposed to President Obama’s agenda even if it was beneficial to millions of Americans including those who opposed reform. Although the group began protesting the lowest tax rates in over 60 years, they were easily manipulated into widening their opposition to include health care for all Americans. The teabaggers disrupted Town Hall meetings that Congressional representatives held to answer questions about what reform would look like, and during the vote in Washington, shouted racial invectives at African-American congressional representatives at the behest of the protest’s organizers. The teabaggers effectively terrorized citizens who attended the town hall meetings to ask questions and closed any opportunity for dialogue that may have better informed the public.
During the debt ceiling negotiations and budget talks, teabaggers threatened to withhold votes in Congress unless Republicans fell in line and refused to compromise with President Obama and Democrats; although, the Republicans were happy to follow the teabaggers’ lead in nearly sending the country into a depression. Whether it was Vice President Biden who called teabaggers terrorists or someone else, the reaction from the right has been nothing short of outrage. It is to be expected though, because anytime truth is used to describe the right, conservatives lash out like little sissy-bullies who can dish it out, but cannot abide it when it is returned to them. Fox News has led the charge to accuse the left of wrongly branding the teabaggers as terrorists and racists, but they should harken back to their own pundits to discover exactly who is wrongly accusing the other side of being terrorists; or racists.
Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly imputed there was a coordinated radical left and media effort to brand the teabaggers as terrorists. O’Reilly said that, “Using words like “terrorist” to brand opponents is simply unacceptable. I think maybe President Obama needs to give another speech like his Arizona appeal. Some of his most ardent supporters obviously did not get the message.” Well, the president’s supporters did get the message and it is curious that O’Reilly says using words like terrorists or racists to brand opponents is unacceptable. First, the accusation is correct because teabaggers were willing to see the country enter a depression if they did not get their way. Second, it is curious that O’Reilly does not remember that Fox News’ pundits routinely used the word terrorist to portray Democratic measures as well as some very racist remarks.
Glenn Beck has related cap-and-trade to the 9/11 terror attacks and he said, “It’s September 11th all over again except we didn’t have the collapsing buildings.” He accused Maxine Waters (D-CA) of economic terrorism and gave us a beautiful definition of a terrorist; he said, “Terrorism in its broadest form is just designed to scare you into changing your way of life.” George W. Bush’s treasury secretary, Paul O’Neill, likened Democratic attempts to block raising the debt ceiling to Islamic terrorists. O’Neill said, “The people who are threatening not to pass the debt ceiling are our version of al Qaeda terrorists. Really.” Really? So it is acceptable when Republicans and Fox News’ pundits call Democrats terrorists, but it is unacceptable when someone on the “radical far-left” calls teabaggers terrorists. If O’Reilly, Fox News, and Republicans do not like teabaggers being called terrorists, they will really not appreciate being called hypocrites. The biggest difference is that when Fox News and their Republican lackeys call healthcare reform and cap-and-trade terrorism, they are liars because those programs will help the economy and the American people. The teabaggers who held the debt limit increase hostage were only helping themselves and their push toward a theocratic government that will not benefit the American people one iota.
Then there is O’Reilly’s contention that teabaggers were wrongly accused of being racists. O’Reilly and Glenn Beck have both played the race card against the left and President Obama, and Fox News has continued to use race-baiting to engender hatred for the president. In May of 2007, O’Reilly and John McCain lamented the left’s attempt at destroying the white power structure in America. During a conversation on O’Reilly’s show, he said, “But do you understand what the New York Times wants, and the far-left want? They want to break down the white, Christian, male power structure, which you’re a part, and so am I.” Glenn Beck has, on several occasions, accused President Obama of hating white people and being a racist. In 2009 Beck said, “Obama has “over and over again” exposed himself as “a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture. I don’t know what it is… I’m saying he has a problem, this guy is, I believe, a racist.”
The race baiting is not limited to Fox News; their teabag minions are undoubtedly racists and in case it seems unbelievable, watch this video montage and then comment below that teabaggers are not racists. Fox News is still using race to portray the president as a gangster and their tactics have never diminished since Obama’s inauguration. The latest covert racism perpetrated by Fox News is calling the president’s birthday party a “hip-hop BBQ that didn’t create jobs” and the picture included only a couple of Black entertainers.
The reason Fox News is angry is because they subsidized and promoted the teabaggers and calling them terrorists or racists is a direct reflection on Fox News. Of course, hypocrisy aside, Fox News is as guilty of terrorist activity as their little group of angry white people. In fact, Glenn Beck’s definition of terrorism is the blueprint for Fox News’ promotion of their conservative agenda. The pundits and news reporters at Fox are experts at using fear-mongering to “scare you into changing your way of life.” Fox has spent its existence frightening ignorant Americans into voting against their own self-interests as a matter-of-course, and they have no intention of changing their terror tactics.
Republicans and their teabagger buddies are terrorists for holding the country’s economy hostage and there is no other way to characterize their actions. They cannot claim it was a negotiating tool because they had no intention of backing down and in fact, were hoping the country did default so the government would collapse. Their goal is eliminating the government and regardless the tactics they use, any enemy, foreign or domestic who works to defeat the government is a terrorist. If Fox News does not find it acceptable to call their lackeys terrorists, they should get them on a short leash and force them to stop the terror tactics. While Fox News is at it, they need to stop the hypocrisy they have become famous for and just go off the air. If Americans want to watch hypocrisy and habitual liars on television, the can tune in and watch Republican legislators on C-SPAN.
