By land or by sea, the Wisconsin protesters are organized, united, spirited, media savvy, and determined. Not only are they showing the rest of the country that we can all work together to stand up for our rights, but also they are showing us how to do it.
Watch this video of their protest of Scott Walker at Devil’s Lake and notice how no matter where the camera turns, there is a protest sign or ten. When Walker stands up at the podium, the protesters are in boats and canoes behind him. When he walks the line, the protesters surround him. When he gets in his car, there is a protester holding a sign above his door, another holding a sign up in the area where he has to walk to the door, and another one on the other side of the car. There is literally no possibility of getting a camera shot of Walker without catching a protest sign. This is indeed what democracy looks like.

The Wisconsin protesters know how to position themselves at every event. They have their chants down, so it’s not possible to get a shot of Walker speaking or moving without hearing “shame, shame, shame”. The media can try to ignore them, but the protesters have made that goal impossible.
The Wisconsin protesters flank Governor Walker at every event. They are peaceful but diligent, thorough and prepared. Pretty soon, Walker won’t be able to do public appearances anymore, because this will get too embarrassing and politically costly for him. The Wisconsin protesters are showing America how we do it here.
Imagine a country were the mainstream media actually reported on important movements like the Madison movement instead of corporate subsidized tea parties. Imagine if the will of the people were actually running the show, if our representatives actually worked for the majority of Americans instead of the upper 5%. Imagine if we had a voice as persuasive and powerful as the corporate lobbyists.
The teamsters just signed a global solidarity resolution today. The Teamsters Nation Blog reports:
“..The future of working people and the future of our great Union depends on our ability to organize the unorganized and to build alliances with workers throughout the world….
…The International Brotherhood of Teamsters recognize that the future of working people and the future of our great Union depends on our ability to organize the unorganized and to build alliances with workers throughout the world. We will particularly focus on the global supply chains where we are uniquely positioned to build Teamster power…”
Workers of the world, unite. Do not let the corporate elite shame you, shun you or blame you for the economic fallout of their own greed. Unite. Fight. There is nothing stronger than the human spirit’s need for freedom and dignity.
Governor Walker, we surround you.
