Tough day with Weiner disappointing us all, but hang in there people. It’s only a matter of days until another politician has a worse sex scandal. Meanwhile, I can’t get over the witch hunt politics as Smoking Gun is suggesting that Republican Issa worked with the two conservative sources regarding exploiting Weinergate.
On the ethics scale, which is worse? Tweeting out teenage level sexual chat to strangers or using unethical means to shut down opposition via witch hunts? Both are troubling, but as they pertain specifically to politics, which do you think is more damaging to democracy? And then there’s the issue of trust and honesty in our representatives….
I leave you with a quote from Krugman in light of the politics of witch hunts: “The key point is that ever since the Reagan years, the Republican Party has been dominated by radicals – ideologues and/or apparatchiks who, at a fundamental level, do not accept anyone else’s right to govern.”
– Paul Krugman, “The Politics of Spite,” NY Times, Oct. 5, 2009.
