More Red State GOP Lawmaker racism and discrimination was put on display yesterday in Oklahoma when already Rep. Sally Kern defended the state’s constitutional amendment to end affirmative action by claiming that blacks and women don’t work as hard as men.
Kern said, “We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that’s tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don’t want to study as hard in school? I’ve taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn’t study hard because they said the government would take care of them.”
She didn’t stop at blacks. She also included women, “You see women usually don’t want to work as hard as man because women tend to think a little bit more about their families, wanting to be at home more time (and) have a little more leisure time. That’s all I (meant).”
Yesterday Kern released a statement of apology that the defended the work ethic of women, but notice what’s missing, “I want to humbly apologize for my statements last night about African Americans and women. I believe that our government should not provide preference based on race or gender. I misspoke while trying to convey this point last night during debate. Women are some of the hardest workers in the world. My husband is a pastor of a diverse inner-city church and the way that my words came out last night is certainly not my true spirit.”
Women are some of the hardest working people in the world, but not African-Americans. I guess they are still not willing to work as hard as white men. Because Kern apologized to women, it has been announced that she is not going to be disciplined.
Kern is also a virulent homophobe. In 2008 she declared that homosexuality is a bigger threat to America than terrorism.
Here is the video of Kern’s attack on gays:
In March 2008, Rep. Kern claimed that homosexuality was a bigger threat to the US than terrorism. According to ABC News, Kern said, “During the speech, Kern said that “the homosexual agenda is just destroying this nation” and that homosexuality poses a bigger threat to the United States than terrorism. “According to God’s word, that is not the right kind of lifestyle. Studies show no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than a few decades.”
And Republicans wonder what they have done to deserve being called racists.
