President Obama’s 2008 and likely again in 2012, campaign manager David Plouffe was on ABC’s This Week today, where instead of expressing fear over the birth certificate issue, he said that they are hoping that Donald Trump continues to rise in the polls. Plouffe said, “I hope he keeps on rising, because I don’t think there is a — there is zero chance that Donald Trump would ever be hired by the American people to do this job.”
Here is the video from ABC News:
Host Christiane Amanpour asked David Plouffe about Donald Trump and the Obama birther conspiracy. Plouffe said, “I don’t. I think I saw Donald Trump’s kind of rise and some falls. And given his behavior and spectacle over the last couple of weeks, I hope he keeps on rising, because I don’t think there is a — there is zero chance that Donald Trump would ever be hired by the American people to do this job.”
Plouffe explained why every moment that Trump stays in the spotlight is a good moment for Obama, “There may be a small part of the country that believes these things. But mainstream Americans think it’s a sideshow. And what they want our leaders to do is focus squarely on the issues right in front of us, how we’re going to keep growing the economy. We’ve had over 1.3 million jobs created in the last 13 months. We’ve got to keep doing that. How we keep our people safe. How do we make sure we’re going to win the future by focusing on things like education and innovation. So that is what they want us to focus on. That’s not leadership, that’s kind of a sideshow behavior.”
Plouffe is right Trump is a joke. According to the latest Fox News Poll, Obama would destroy Trump in a head to head match up. The birther conspiracy turns off more voters than it attracts, so the best thing that could ever happen to Obama is that the 2012 Republican nominee decides to campaign on the birth certificate issue.
The far right doesn’t understand this, but they look completely insane when bring up the debunked Obama birth certificate conspiracy theory. Going birther is the fastest way for the Republican Party to lose the 2012 election. Karl Rove knows this. It’s why he calls the birthers a Obama plot, because nothing helps the President more than a bunch of crackpots screaming release the birth certificate.
Republican strategists express terror over the thought that the birthers will become an issue in the 2012 campaign. They believe the birthers will destroy the Republican Party’s chances in 2012 if they convince the GOP nominee to run on the “birth certificate issue.”
These conspiracy theorists don’t get that their insanity is helping, not hurting President Obama. I don’t think that Obama has to worry about any of the potential candidates in the 2012 field. The current GOP field may be the biggest bunch of unwashed losers in American political history, but the one sure way to make a GOP victory impossible in 2012 is for the party to embrace birthers.
The only way that Republicans could make their situation worse would be to nominate a reality TV clown like Donald Trump. The fact that Trump is being taken seriously by some Republicans should tell you all you need to know about the depth and quality of their 2012 field. Donald Trump makes Sarah Palin look experienced and ready for command.
Donald Trump is doing the Obama campaign a giant favor every time he opens his mouth about Obama’s birth certificate.
Every supporter of Barack Obama should hope that Donald Trump never shuts up.
