Wisconsin Rep. Nick Milroy (D-South Range) was tackled to the ground by police as he tried to enter the Capitol building Thursday night to get some clothes.
Governor Walker’s thug tactics are becoming problematic. While police have been asked to guard the Capitol to prevent protesters from using it after business hours, it seems beyond the pale to use those police to tackle Democratic law makers. This comes on the heels of Republicans issuing constitutionally questionable orders to have Democrats “detained” by police, although it is violates the state Constitution to arrest lawmakers during session.
Republicans claim “detaining” is not “arresting”. But as this footage shows, the thug tactics are increasing as Republicans grow more desperate and determined to shut down debate over their power grab, which in and of itself violates several rights granted to people both by the UN as well as Wisconsin’s own constitution.
Ironically, this confrontation came on the heels of a judge ruling that the the state “closed the Capitol impermissibly” when it began restricting public access to the building, ordering the limits be lifted no later than 8 a.m. Monday in order to facilitate the rights to free assembly and free speech the protesters are constitutionally entitled to.
Governor Walker keeps pushing the boundaries of the law, forcing courts to compel him to comply with the law. He should know better.
