Glenn Beck Goes Off The Deep End And Attacks Google

On his Fox News television program today, Glenn Beck warned his viewers not to use Google anymore. Beck said, “May I recommend if you are doing your own homework, don’t do a Google search. Seems to me that Google is pretty deeply in bed with the government. Remember, maybe this is explaining why Google is being kicked out of all the other countries?”

Here is the video from Media Matters:

Beck said, “Is anybody willing to do their own homework, because the media’s not going to. Start looking at who they’re connected to. Can you just look at all these? By the way also, I would look into all the people the State Department are working with MSNBC, CBS, MTV. Maybe we should start watching those networks a little bit and seeing what their news coverage is like? Who are these groups? Who are they? Are they right? Are they left? Are they clean? Are they dirty? Are they front groups? I don’t know.”

Beck launched into his great Google conspiracy, “May I recommend if you are doing your own homework, don’t do a Google search. Seems to me that Google is pretty deeply in bed with the government. Remember, maybe this is explaining why Google is being kicked out of all the other countries? Are they just a shill now for the United States government? Who is Jared Cohen? Is he private citizen or government operative, and isn’t this the second Google guy we’ve found? This is the second Google executive now being exposed an instigator of a revolution. Are you comfortable with the government partnering covertly with media organizations, search engines, social networking so they can bring change that the Washington elites have designed?”

He concluded by claiming that Google engages in propaganda, “I’m not comfortable with that. I don’t care if it’s George Washington, George Bush, Barack Obama, or Abraham Lincoln. I’m not comfortable with that. It used to be called propaganda. What do we call it now? Oh yeah, that’s right, community organizing.”

According to Beck, Google is involved in the Obama conspiracy to spread revolution because Jared Cohen spent four years serving both the Bush and Obama administrations on the State Department’s Policy Planning staff. That’s the whole Cohen/Google/government revolution connection. Beck mentioned MSNBC, CBS, and MTV as networks that were involved in this conspiracy, but he forgot one. Former State Department official Liz Cheney is a Fox News contributor. This can only mean one thing. Beck’s own network is also working with the State Department. (/sarcasm)

Beck’s conspiracy theory/attack on Google is total nonsense. Glenn is trying to keep his audience away from Google because a Google search might accidentally reveal the truth to them, and they will realize that Beck is full of crap. The Google conspiracy is the latest front in Glenn Beck’s ongoing effort to isolate his audience from any sources of information that are not him. Since Glenn Beck can no longer grow his audience, he is trying to keep his audience by tightening their cycle of dependency though the delegitimization of other information outlets.

The purpose is the same as it is with all of Beck’s conspiracies. He needs to keep his viewers paranoid and afraid. They must at all times feel like they are threatened and under attack, and Glenn Beck must be their only savior and messiah. If it takes making things up about Google, that’s what he’ll do. Glenn Beck is either mentally unbalanced or shameless, but even he can see his empire slipping away, and he is desperately trying to hold on.
