On his radio show today, Glenn Beck took his rhetoric to a new extreme by claiming that President Obama wants the young people of America to riot and kill, “When you have a sea of humanity rising up and demanding change, the kind of change that’s he’s demanding, and they are rioting and they hurting the economy, and they are killing people…They will provide the people with the change they are requesting.”
Here is the audio from Media Matters:
Beck said, “This government is designed bottom up, top down, so in other words the bottom will rise up and say we want change, and the top who has been orchestrating all of the people at the bottom says oh, we’re more than happy to give you that change, so this is designed, designed in America to work that way.”
“Here’s what happens, here’s what happens, he won’t listen to anybody that he and Organizing For America, and One Nation hasn’t organized, but when his people come out into the streets and demand, the youth, remember the speech he gave yesterday, this is the youth movement. Oh the people wanted change, but the youth were the ones who did it, and we support and stand by the youth quote just like you, so when that rises up, so when you have a sea of humanity rising up and demanding change.
Beck then warned of Obama directed blood in the streets, “The kind of change that’s he’s demanding, and they are rioting and they hurting the economy, and they are killing people, and setting things on fire. Believe me, believe me, this government understands bottom up, top down. They will provide the people with the change they are requesting, but there’s no difference between those at the top, and those rioters in the streets. Organizing for America, organizing for a new international labor movement, organizing for one nation this is what it’s all about.”
I believe we have reached the height of Glenn Beck’s desperation to revive his sagging ratings. Beck won’t let go of his Egypt conspiracies, despite the fact that there is no evidence that what Beck is talking about could actually happen in the United States. For those who missed his point, Glenn Beck predicted that Obama would organize his supporters to wreck the economy, riot, kill and demand change, which he would then deliver. Glenn also managed to tie in a new world order component at the end of his remarks.
Beck does deserve credit for knowing his audience. The average age of a talk radio listener is 55-62. If we factor in the fact that most of these listeners are also white, extremist conservatives who are prone to a fearful outlook on the state of affairs to begin with, you have the perfect audience for Beck’s paranoid rant about the menace of angry Obama driven youth coming to burn down the local senior center, and kill everyone.
Glenn Beck has gotten so far out of the mainstream that he is falling out of favor with some Republicans. The more Beck talks about riots and a world government, he is solidly drifting into the territory of Alex Jones. Beck is doing his best to scare the older Americans who are the backbone of his support, but to the rest of us, he has the look of a man who has gone over the edge.
