Fox News’ Brian Sullivan was filling in for Neil Cavuto today and was running the usual blame Obama for the Gulf oil spill segment, when guest Republican Billy Nungesser accidentally changed the narrative and blamed BP for the red tape involved in the clean up, “You know the red tape. We’ve got stacks of paperwork waiting to be approved by BP.”
Here is the video courtesy of Media Matters:
Republican Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser was Brian Sullivan’s guest and they started out talking about how government red tape is hurting the oil spill clean up efforts in the Gulf and Nungesser supposed to complain about the federal government, which he did, until Sullivan asked if there was too much red tape and bureaucracy to fight this thing as we need to?
Nungesser first blamed the White House for not letting them drop rocks in the Gulf to act as barrier to the oil, “Yeah, the rocks have been denied. I got a call from the White House they will not allow the rocks. They’re going to Plan B. Sullivan asked why the rocks weren’t allowed to be used to create a break water. Nungesser answered, “They say it’s going to cause scuffing of the islands. It could cause more damage. The same thing they threw at us when we talked about the berms early on.”
Nungesser then screwed up the whole segment by telling the truth, “You know the red tape, we’ve got stacks of paperwork waiting to get approved by BP for skimmers as this oil continues to come ashore…There’s skimmers out there, and we need to put them all to work, and BP needs to approve the paperwork so we can get these skimmers in the water.” Well, there goes the whole blame Obama and “big government” for the Gulf oil spill segment. By telling the truth, that it is BP who is the problem, not Obama, good old Billy unintentionally destroyed the very anti-Obama point that Fox News is trying to make. Sometimes even the best laid plans of cable news’ best propaganda machine go up in smoke when the truth gets in the way.
