According to an LA Times story, Barack Obama has confirmed that Hillary Clinton is on the VP list, but the problem is that the Obama camp does not want former president Bill Clinton hovering around the White House and looking over Obama’s shoulder.
At the beginning of the 2008 Democratic primary campaign Bill Clinton was thought to be his wife’s biggest asset, but he turned out to be a huge liability and a danger to the campaign anywhere there was a live microphone near by. The Hillary Clinton campaign was constantly forced to get off message, and put out fires started by her husband.
Even though the campaign between Obama and Clinton was bitter, the problems that Bill and Barack have with each other are personal. The opening salvo came after the Iowa caucuses when Bill Clinton called Barack Obama’s position on Iraq a fairy tale, but it was this comment that made the feud between Mr. Clinton and Obama personal, “Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not, and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. “It is rumored that President Clinton is still fuming over that remark.
What is lost in this alpha male feud is that Hillary Clinton has demonstrated that she would be a solid running mate for Obama. When people like myself write about why Mrs. Clinton should not be Obama’s running mate, the criticism centers around the Clinton baggage. Much of this baggage comes from Bill, and it looks like unless both sides can figure out something to do with former President Clinton to keep him out of the way, his wife will not be getting the Democratic vice presidential nomination.
The LA Times story quoted Obama as saying that it would be a mistake not to put Hillary Clinton on the list, but, it looks like unless both sides can figure out something to do with former President Clinton to keep him out of the way, his wife will not be getting the Democratic vice presidential nomination.
